Lapham writes in 'Age of Folly', which engenders movement, which induces friction, which implies unhappiness, which assumes conflict not only as the normal but also as the necessary condition of its existence' yet, it creates a more just society than any other arrangement. As Lapham writes, if democracy means anything at all, "it means the freedom of thought and the perpetual expansion of the discovery that the world is not oneself." We are all minorities here.
