The correct option is 3:

The statement "Caste activism in India is as per the vision of those who framed the Constitution of India" is factually and conceptually incorrect, making it the right choice for an "Identify the incorrect statement" question. The framers of the Constitution—including leaders like B.R. Ambedkar and Jawaharlal Nehru—envisioned a modern, secular, and egalitarian nation where caste-based discrimination and social hierarchies would wither away. The Constitution itself aimed to abolish untouchability (Article 17) and prohibited discrimination on the grounds of caste (Article 15). While the framers instituted reservations (affirmative action) for Scheduled Castes and Tribes, this was a temporary measure of social justice and representation, intended to uplift marginalized groups and integrate them into the mainstream, not to perpetually institutionalize or encourage political "caste activism." Modern caste activism often involves political mobilization to demand benefits, power, or recognition, which is a political reality that emerged despite the framers' vision of a caste-free polity, not as per their vision. Therefore, this statement fundamentally misrepresents the core anti-caste, egalitarian philosophy embedded in the Constitution.

The incorrect option is 1:

The statement "Caste communities are presented as determining electoral outcomes" is a common and largely accurate observation in Indian political science, meaning this statement is correct in reality. The concept of 'caste arithmetic' suggests that political parties carefully calculate the proportion of different caste groups in a constituency and strategically field candidates belonging to the locally dominant or numerous castes to secure a victory. While other factors like economic performance, leadership, and communal feelings also play a role, the ability of caste groups to consolidate their votes often makes them decisive factors in electoral results. This phenomenon is extensively studied and cited in literature on Indian elections, where caste is seen as one of the fundamental factors influencing voter behavior and electoral strategy.

The incorrect option is 2:

The statement "Castes work as pressure groups influencing the governance agenda of the Indian State" is correct. In a dynamic democratic process, when caste groups organize themselves, they transform from being mere social categories into political interest or pressure groups. Organizations representing various backward castes, dominant castes, or tribal communities often lobby the government to protect their economic interests, demand specific policy changes (like increased reservation quotas or welfare schemes), or advocate for better implementation of existing policies. By exercising their collective political clout, these groups actively influence the policy formulation and governance agenda of both central and state governments, demonstrating their function beyond just electoral voting blocks.

The incorrect option is 4:

The statement "Caste considerations structure political parties, their leaderships and programmes" is correct. Caste plays a significant structural role in Indian party politics. Firstly, internal party leadership often seeks to maintain a balance of representation across major caste groups to ensure broad-based appeal. Secondly, political parties frequently tailor their manifestos and programmes—such as announcing schemes targeting specific caste groups or forming alliances—to appeal to specific caste constituencies. This strategic use of caste is essential for political survival, as parties understand that organizational structure and outreach must reflect and accommodate the diverse caste demographics of the electorate to successfully mobilize support and win elections.

The correct option is 3:

The correct option is 3 (A-iii, B-iv, C-ii, D-i) because it accurately pairs the significant social and environmental movements listed in List-I with the correct Indian states in List-II where they primarily originated or were centered. Understanding these matchings is crucial for grasping India's history of social and environmental activism. Let’s break down the correct pairings: A. Silent Valley - iii. Kerala: The Silent Valley movement (or Save Silent Valley movement) was a landmark environmental protest in the late 1970s and early 1980s, aimed at protecting the Silent Valley tropical evergreen forests in the Palakkad district of Kerala from being submerged by a proposed hydroelectric dam project on the Kunthipuzha River. B. Dalit Panthers - iv. Maharashtra: The Dalit Panthers was a militant social organization founded in 1972 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, by young Dalits, inspired by the American Black Panther movement. Their goal was to fight caste oppression, casteism, and socio-economic exploitation faced by the Dalit community. C. Nawnirman Andolan - ii. Gujarat: The Navnirman Andolan (Reconstruction Movement) was a non-political student movement that took place in Gujarat in 1973-74. It was initiated primarily against corruption in public life and high food prices, eventually leading to the resignation of the state government. D. Chipko Andolan - i. Uttarakhand: The Chipko movement, famous for villagers hugging trees to prevent them from being cut down, originated in the early 1970s in the Chamoli district of what was then Uttar Pradesh, but is now part of the state of Uttarakhand. These pairings are historically and geographically precise, confirming option 3 as the correct answer.

The incorrect option is 1: (A-iii, B-ii, C-iv, D-i)
This option correctly matches Silent Valley with Kerala (A-iii) and Chipko Andolan with Uttarakhand (D-i). However, it incorrectly links Dalit Panthers to Gujarat (B-ii) and the Navnirman Andolan to Maharashtra (C-iv). The Dalit Panthers originated in Maharashtra, not Gujarat, and the Navnirman Andolan was a crucial anti-corruption student movement in Gujarat, not Maharashtra. Therefore, due to the misplacement of the latter two movements, this option is invalid.

The incorrect option is 2: (A-ii, B-iv, C-i, D-iii)
This option contains significant factual errors. It incorrectly links Silent Valley to Gujarat (A-ii); the movement took place in Kerala. It then incorrectly associates the Dalit Panthers with Maharashtra (B-iv), which is correct. However, it incorrectly links the Navnirman Andolan to Uttarakhand (C-i) and the Chipko Andolan to Kerala (D-iii). Since the Chipko movement is historically and geographically tied to the Himalayan region (Uttarakhand), and the Navnirman movement is tied to Gujarat, these pairings are incorrect, rendering the entire option wrong.

The incorrect option is 4: (A-iv, B-iii, C-i, D-ii)
This option completely misrepresents the location of three of the four movements. It incorrectly links Silent Valley to Maharashtra (A-iv), when it belongs to Kerala. It incorrectly links Dalit Panthers to Kerala (B-iii), instead of Maharashtra. It incorrectly links the Navnirman Andolan to Uttarakhand (C-i), when it belongs to Gujarat. Only the pairing of Chipko Andolan with a state in Northern India (D-ii - Gujarat) is geographically plausible, but still wrong, as Chipko belongs to Uttarakhand. Given the extensive errors, this option is incorrect.

गलत विकल्प 2 है (A-ii, B-iv, C-i, D-iii): इस विकल्प में A (साइलेंट वैली) का मिलान ii.

गलत विकल्प 4 है (A-iv, B-iii, C-i, D-ii): इस विकल्प में A (साइलेंट वैली) का मिलान iv.

The correct option is 2: Untouchable.

This question asks you to identify the book that was not authored by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution and a towering figure in the movement against caste discrimination. The title "Untouchable" is a work of fiction, a novel published in 1935, which was written by the renowned Indian author Mulk Raj Anand. While the book deals directly with the themes of caste and untouchability that were central to Dr. Ambedkar's life and struggle, it is an artistic creation by Anand, not a polemical or historical work by Ambedkar himself.

The incorrect option is 1 (Annihilation of Caste): This is a seminal work by Dr. Ambedkar, originally prepared in 1936 as a speech for the annual conference of the Jat-Pat Todak Mandal. When the speech was rejected by the organizers, Ambedkar published it himself. It stands as one of his most powerful critiques of the caste system and Hinduism, arguing for the necessity of destroying caste entirely.

The incorrect option is 3 (Who were the Shudras?): Published in 1946, this is a historical and socio-political treatise written by Dr. Ambedkar. In this work, he examines the historical origins of the Shudras (the fourth varna in the Hindu social hierarchy), arguing that they were originally Kshatriyas who were degraded by the Brahmins, providing an alternative, non-traditional narrative of their status.

The incorrect option is 4 (Riddles in Hinduism): This book, written by Dr. Ambedkar, is part of his collection of writings and speeches, though it was published posthumously. It comprises a series of critical essays questioning the inconsistencies, moral dilemmas, and paradoxes found within Hindu mythology and scriptures. It reflects Ambedkar's lifelong intellectual challenge to the foundation of the religious framework that sanctioned untouchability.

The correct option is 2:

उनकी रचनाएं अक्सर शीर्षक में 'Untouchables' (अछूत) शब्द का प्रयोग करती हैं, जैसे कि उनकी प्रसिद्ध पुस्तक 'The Untouchables: Who Were They and Why They Became Untouchables?'

The incorrect option is 1:

The incorrect option is 3: शूद्र कौन थे ?

(Who Were the Shudras?)

The incorrect option is 4:

The correct option is 3:

Brazil is considered the quintessential example of "Coalitional Presidentialism." This unique political system arises when a president, despite being popularly elected, lacks a majority in the legislature. To effectively govern and pass legislation, the president must form a large, stable, and multi-party governing coalition by distributing cabinet positions, budgetary resources, and other benefits among the coalition partners. This necessity for continuous coalition-building fundamentally alters the dynamics of the presidential system, making policy success and political stability contingent upon the maintenance of this broad legislative alliance. Brazil's fragmented party system and mandatory proportional representation often necessitate forming coalitions involving dozens of parties, cementing its status as the world's most prominent case study for this model.

The incorrect option is 1 (Mexico): Mexico operates a presidential system, but it has historically been characterized by long periods of single-party dominance, particularly under the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). Even after moving towards full democracy and competitive multi-party politics, Mexico's presidentialism does not rely on forming expansive, multi-party coalitions to the same degree as Brazil. While coalition-building is sometimes necessary, the structural characteristics that define "coalitional presidentialism"—a high number of coalition partners, significant legislative fragmentation, and cabinet control used as the primary tool for coalition maintenance—are less pronounced than in Brazil. Mexico has often featured a more classic presidential model, sometimes with a dominant party.

The incorrect option is 2 (South Africa): South Africa employs a parliamentary system where the head of government (the President) is elected by the National Assembly, not directly by popular vote. Therefore, its political structure is fundamentally parliamentary, not presidential. The country's dominant-party system, led by the African National Congress (ANC) for decades, means that while coalition politics exist at the municipal level, the national government structure does not fit the definition of a presidential system that must constantly manage a cabinet-level coalition to survive and govern, as seen in true coalitional presidentialism.

The incorrect option is 4 (USA): The United States is the archetypal example of a strong presidential system, defined by a strict separation of powers between the executive and legislative branches. While the US system frequently experiences divided government, where the President's party does not control Congress, this is characterized by legislative deadlock and negotiation, rather than the formation of a formal, multi-party cabinet coalition. The US President does not typically appoint leaders of opposition parties to cabinet positions in exchange for legislative support, which is the core mechanism of coalitional presidentialism. The American system is generally understood as a system of checks and balances, distinct from the coalition-based governing structure of countries like Brazil.

The correct option is 3:

The correct option is 3 (ब्राज़ील):

The incorrect option is 1 (मेक्सिको):

The incorrect option is 2 (दक्षिण अफ्रीका):

The incorrect option is 4 (यू० एस० ए०):

The correct option is 3:

The correct option, 16, refers to the total number of meetings held by the National Integration Council (NIC) since its inception. The NIC is an extra-constitutional body, first established in 1961 by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru following a conference in the aftermath of widespread communal disturbances. Its main objective is to address the challenges of communalism, casteism, regionalism, and linguistic fanaticism, and to find ways to overcome these issues to strengthen the unity and integrity of India. The Council includes the Prime Minister (as Chairman), Union Ministers, Chief Ministers of all States, leaders of national and regional political parties, representatives of various public bodies, eminent public figures, and media persons. The core function of the NIC is advisory—it aims to build a consensus among diverse stakeholders on strategies for fostering national cohesion. The number 16 is factually accurate, reflecting the count of formal NIC meetings convened from its founding up to the last meeting before the time this question was set, which, according to government records, was the most recent count. The NIC meets "as per requirement from time to time," which is why the total number of meetings held over six decades can be relatively small, depending on the sociopolitical climate and the need to address specific crises related to national integration.

The incorrect option is 1:

The figure 20 is not the historically accurate count of the NIC meetings. While the NIC is an important body, it has not met as frequently as this number suggests. The number of meetings held is generally lower because the body is typically convened only when significant national integration issues arise or major policy reviews are required, often spanning several years between sessions. Therefore, selecting 20 over 16 would indicate an assumption of a greater frequency of meetings than has factually occurred in the history of the NIC.

The incorrect option is 2:

The option 18 incorrectly states the total number of NIC meetings. The National Integration Council has a documented history of its sessions, and official government records specify the exact count of meetings held since 1961. Historically, the periods between meetings have sometimes been prolonged, particularly between 1968 and 1980, and during other politically turbulent times, meaning the total aggregate number remains less than 18. This number likely represents a speculative or outdated estimate rather than the confirmed official figure.

The incorrect option is 4:

The number 19 is inaccurate for the total number of NIC meetings held so far. Students should remember that questions related to the number of times a specific official body has met require precise factual recall based on governmental or parliamentary records. The 16th meeting was, for a long time, the last recorded session before this question was posed. Choosing 19 would suggest that three additional official meetings took place that are not reflected in the confirmed data, making it an incorrect numerical estimation.

The correct option is 3:

The incorrect option is 1:

The incorrect option is 2:

The incorrect option is 4:

The correct option is 3:

Smt. V. S. Ramadevi holds the distinct historical position of being the first and, to date, the only woman to have ever served as the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India. She took charge briefly from November 26, 1990, to December 11, 1990. While her tenure was extremely short, her appointment itself was a landmark event in the history of the Indian Election Commission, breaking a long streak of male leadership in this crucial constitutional body. The Election Commission is central to maintaining democracy, and her appointment reflected a step toward inclusive leadership at the highest levels of Indian governance, making this statement factually accurate in its historical context, even if the phrasing "only woman" is based on the data up to the time of the question paper.

The incorrect option is 1:

This statement contains a factual error regarding the establishment date of the Election Commission of India (ECI). While the ECI is indeed a permanent Constitutional Body established under Article 324 of the Constitution, it was formally established on January 25, 1950, not January 25, 1952. January 25th is globally celebrated as National Voters’ Day in India in commemoration of the ECI's foundation in 1950. The year 1952 is significant as it marked the year of India’s first general elections, which were managed by the ECI, but the establishment predates this by two years.

The incorrect option is 2:

This statement is incorrect because while the Election Commission became a multi-member body in 1989 and then permanently from 1993 onwards, the transition period means it was not continuously multi-member from 1990. Specifically, it briefly became multi-member in 1989 but was reverted to a single-member body in October 1989. It was then permanently converted to a three-member body (one CEC and two Election Commissioners) in 1993. Since 1993, the multi-member system has been continuously operational, and all decisions are indeed taken unanimously or by majority vote, as stipulated by the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (Conditions of Service) Act, 1991. The year '1990' makes this option factually imprecise regarding the continuous multi-member structure.

The incorrect option is 4:

This statement contains an error regarding the tenure of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and the Election Commissioners (ECs). The President does appoint the CEC and ECs, but their fixed tenure is six years or until they attain the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier, according to the rules set by the Parliament. The mention of "five years" and "60 years" in this option is incorrect. The long and fixed tenure is a deliberate constitutional safeguard intended to protect the ECI officials from political pressure and ensure their independence.

The correct option is 3:

The correct option is "All the statements are correct." This is because all four statements accurately reflect the constitutional powers and functions vested in the Election Commission of India (ECI) under various legal provisions, primarily Article 103, Article 192 of the Constitution, and the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

Statement I asserts that the ECI has advisory jurisdiction regarding the post-election disqualification of sitting members of Parliament (MPs) and State Legislatures (MLAs). This is factually correct. Under Article 103 (for MPs) and Article 192 (for MLAs), the President or the Governor, respectively, must refer any question regarding disqualification (based on grounds other than defection) to the ECI, and must act according to the opinion tendered by the Commission.

Statement II states that the ECI’s opinion in such matters is binding on the President or the Governor. This is a crucial detail of the ECI's advisory power under Articles 103 and 192. While the President/Governor formally passes the order, they are constitutionally bound by the advice of the Election Commission to ensure the neutrality and independence of the electoral process in determining these disqualifications.

Statement III deals with the power to disqualify a candidate who fails to lodge an account of their election expenses correctly and within the prescribed time. This power is explicitly granted to the ECI under Section 10A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. This is a necessary function to maintain financial transparency and accountability in the electoral process.

Statement IV confirms the ECI's power to remove or reduce the period of such disqualification. This is also derived from the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (specifically Section 11 and its amendments). It grants the ECI the authority to remit (remove) or reduce a disqualification imposed under Section 10A (failure to lodge accounts) or under certain other specified sections of the Act. This provides a mechanism for review and relief where appropriate.

Since all four statements—covering the ECI's advisory role in post-election disqualification (I and II) and its specific quasi-judicial powers related to election expenses (III and IV)—are legally sound functions of the ECI, the option encompassing all of them is the correct choice.

The incorrect option is 1 (Statement I, II & III are correct.):

This option incorrectly omits Statement IV, which details the ECI’s power to remove or reduce disqualifications. By selecting this option, one would be failing to acknowledge the ECI's crucial remedial authority under the Representation of the People Act, 1951. Section 11 of the RP Act specifically grants the Commission the power to remove or reduce the period of disqualification imposed on candidates under various provisions, including those related to failure to lodge election accounts (Statement III). Therefore, Statement I, II, and III being correct does not negate the correctness of Statement IV, making this option incomplete and thus incorrect in a scenario where all four are true.

The incorrect option is 2 (Statement II & IV are correct.):

This option is incomplete because it excludes two fundamental and correct functions of the ECI: the advisory jurisdiction itself (Statement I) and the power to impose disqualification for failure to lodge accounts (Statement III). Statements I and III are the basis for the enforcement mechanisms described in Statements II and IV, respectively. Advisory jurisdiction (I) is explicitly mentioned in the Constitution, and the corresponding binding nature (II) is derived from it. Similarly, the power to disqualify (III) precedes the power to remove/reduce disqualification (IV). Since Statements I and III are also correct, this choice is insufficient.

The incorrect option is 4 (All the statements are incorrect.):

This option is factually wrong because, as established, all four statements accurately describe the functions of the Election Commission of India. Statement I and II are derived from Articles 103 and 192 of the Constitution, confirming the ECI's mandatory and binding advisory role in post-election disqualifications. Statements III and IV are derived from the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (specifically Sections 10A and 11), confirming the ECI's powers over election expenditure compliance. Asserting that all these well-established statutory and constitutional powers are incorrect displays a misunderstanding of the ECI’s comprehensive mandate.

The correct option is 4:

[Detailed explanation of why it is correct — include conceptual, or contextual depth.]

The correct option is the Satyanarayan Rao Committee. This committee is not associated with electoral reforms, but rather with the reorganization of state structures, particularly focusing on judicial and administrative decentralization. Specifically, the Satyanarayan Rao Committee was established for the reorganization of the then Hyderabad State (pre-Andhra Pradesh formation) and made significant recommendations concerning the location of capital institutions and the administrative setup. Its recommendations included abolishing certain existing benches and determining the location of the High Court bench, which is a matter entirely separate from the process, funding, and legal structure of holding elections in India. Therefore, out of the given choices, the Satyanarayan Rao Committee stands out as its mandate was territorial and administrative restructuring, not the purification or modernization of the electoral system.

The incorrect option is 1:

The Jeevan Reddy Committee, officially the Justice B.P. Jeevan Reddy Commission, was constituted to review the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), 1958. While its primary focus was on security laws and human rights, the issue of electoral participation, freedom of assembly, and the overall democratic environment in conflict zones where AFSPA is enforced often intersects with the broader debate on constitutional governance and democratic rights, which includes the ability to conduct free and fair elections. Furthermore, in the context of political science questions that group various reform-oriented panels, the Jeevan Reddy Committee dealt with fundamental democratic and legal frameworks, bringing it closer to the political reform space than a purely administrative committee like the Satyanarayan Rao Committee.

The incorrect option is 2:

The Jayaprakash Narayan Committee, particularly the one often referenced in political reform contexts, is directly associated with calls for comprehensive electoral reforms in India. Jayaprakash Narayan (JP) was a leading proponent of "Total Revolution" in the 1970s, and his movements fiercely advocated for cleansing the Indian political system, with electoral integrity being a core component. The Tarkunde Committee, set up during the JP Movement in 1974, made crucial suggestions for electoral changes, such as lowering the voting age, separating state funding for elections, and implementing proportional representation. Although the Tarkunde Committee was officially headed by Justice V.M. Tarkunde, it was fundamentally a result of the pressure and reform agenda championed by Jayaprakash Narayan, thus strongly associating his name with electoral reforms.

The incorrect option is 3:

The Vohra Committee, officially known as the N.N. Vohra Committee, was established in 1993 to study the nexus between crime and politics in India. The findings and recommendations of this committee are deeply relevant to electoral reforms. When organized crime and corruption penetrate the political structure, the sanctity of the electoral process is compromised through muscle power, intimidation, and illegal funding. Therefore, committees addressing the criminalization of politics—like the Vohra Committee—are directly linked to the broader goal of electoral reform, aiming to ensure that elections are free from criminal influence and are truly representative of the electorate.

The incorrect option is 1:

The incorrect option is 2:

The incorrect option is 3:

The correct option is 3:
The case of Dr. Subhash Kashinath Mahajan Vs State of Maharashtra (2018) is a landmark judgment of the Supreme Court of India that delivered a set of mandatory directions to prevent the misuse of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 (commonly known as the SC/ST Act). The core issue addressed by the Supreme Court was the rising number of instances where false complaints were allegedly being filed under the Act to settle civil disputes or personal vendettas, leading to the immediate arrest of the accused without proper investigation. Recognizing the importance of the Act for protecting vulnerable communities, but also the need to protect the liberty of innocent citizens, the Court introduced procedural safeguards. These safeguards included the requirement of a preliminary inquiry by the police before registering an FIR, and mandating that a public servant could only be arrested after obtaining written permission from the appointing authority. These directions were intended to balance the objective of the Act—which is to prevent atrocities against SC/ST communities—with the principle of due process and protection against arbitrary arrest. However, due to significant public and political backlash arguing that these directions diluted the strict provisions of the Act, the Parliament later passed the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Act, 2018, effectively nullifying the procedural changes introduced by the Supreme Court's verdict. Nonetheless, the case remains historically significant for its attempt to address the alleged misuse of the law.

The incorrect option is 1:
Honour killing is a severe social crime, but the Dr. Subhash Kashinath Mahajan case does not specifically deal with this issue. Cases related to honour killing and the protection of couples who marry inter-caste or inter-religion are typically handled through other legal provisions, often involving the interpretation of Article 21 (Right to Life) and the role of Khap Panchayats or other local bodies. Landmark judgments concerning honour killings, such as Shakti Vahini vs. Union of India (2018), have focused on preventing these crimes and ensuring police protection for vulnerable individuals. Therefore, while both topics address social issues, the legal subject matter of the Dr. Subhash Kashinath Mahajan case is distinct and focused purely on the procedural aspects of the SC/ST Act.

The incorrect option is 2:
The issue of video recording or live streaming of court proceedings in the public interest is related to transparency in the judicial system, but it is not the subject matter of the Dr. Subhash Kashinath Mahajan case. The Supreme Court addressed the live streaming of judicial proceedings in a separate, path-breaking case, Swapnil Tripathi vs. Supreme Court of India (2018). In that verdict, the Court gave its assent to the live streaming of proceedings, subject to rules and safeguards, in order to promote access to justice and transparency. Linking the Dr. Subhash Kashinath Mahajan case, which concerns criminal procedure under a specific social legislation, to the concept of judicial transparency through live streaming is factually inaccurate.

The incorrect option is 4:
The reservation in promotion for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes communities is a highly contentious issue related to service law and constitutional amendments, but it is not the subject of the Dr. Subhash Kashinath Mahajan case. Major legal battles regarding this topic have been heard in cases like M. Nagaraj vs. Union of India (2006) and Jarnail Singh vs. Lachhmi Narain Gupta (2018). These cases established the constitutional requirements and conditions, such as the demonstration of 'backwardness' and 'inadequacy of representation,' that the government must fulfill before granting reservation in promotion. The Mahajan case focused solely on the process of arrest and investigation under the SC/ST Act, making the issue of reservation in promotion unrelated to its core subject.

The correct option is 3:

The correct option is 3: Governor of the concerned State: The appointment of the State Election Commissioner (SEC) is governed by Article 243K (1) of the Indian Constitution for Panchayats and Article 243ZA (1) for Municipalities. These articles explicitly state that the Governor of the concerned State shall appoint the State Election Commissioner. The SEC is an independent constitutional authority tasked with the superintendence, direction, and control of the preparation of electoral rolls and the conduct of elections to the Panchayats and Municipalities, thereby ensuring free and fair local body elections. The Governor, as the head of the State Executive, performs this crucial function to establish the independence of the SEC from the state government, although they are appointed on the advice of the State Cabinet.

The incorrect option is 1: Chief Election Commissioner of India: While the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) heads the Election Commission of India (ECI), which conducts elections for the Parliament, State Legislatures, President, and Vice-President, the CEC has no role in appointing the SEC. The State Election Commission is a separate constitutional body created under the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments to manage local body elections, distinct from the central ECI, and therefore, their appointments are handled at the state level by the Governor.

The incorrect option is 2: President of India: The President of India is responsible for appointing the Chief Election Commissioner and other members of the central Election Commission, and judges of the High Courts and Supreme Court. However, the State Election Commissioner is appointed by the Governor of the respective state, as the function relates exclusively to the local governance structure within the state's jurisdiction. The President's role is restricted to constitutional appointments at the Union level, not for positions overseeing local body polls.

The incorrect option is 4: The Legislative Assembly of the concerned State: The Legislative Assembly, which is the state legislature, is the law-making body and does not typically hold the power of appointment for constitutional functionaries like the SEC. The appointment power is vested in the executive head of the state, the Governor, to maintain a separation of powers and ensure the independence of the SEC from the political influence of the legislature. Furthermore, while the Legislative Assembly can legislate on matters concerning the State Election Commission, the power of appointment is specifically reserved for the Governor.

The correct option is 3:

The incorrect option is 1:

The incorrect option is 2:

The incorrect option is 4:

The correct option is 1:

The correct option is 1: Tiananman Square Violence. This event, which occurred in Beijing, China, in June 1989, involved a government crackdown on pro-democracy protests. While it was a significant event in international politics, dealing with China's internal stability and human rights issues, it primarily concerned a one-party communist state's relationship with its own citizens. Critically, China was never considered one of the two core poles (the US and the USSR) that defined the post-WWII bi-polar system. The bi-polar structure was defined by the competition between the Western capitalist bloc, led by the US, and the Eastern communist bloc, led by the Soviet Union (USSR). Therefore, this internal Chinese event had no direct causative link to the dissolution or collapse of the Soviet Union's sphere of influence in Eastern Europe, which is what fundamentally ended the bi-polar world order.

The incorrect option is 2:

The Demolition of the Berlin Wall in November 1989 is widely regarded as the symbolic and physical end of the Iron Curtain, which separated the two ideological blocs. The Wall's fall represented the collapse of Soviet control over East Germany and the move toward German reunification. This event was a profound manifestation of the weakening Soviet grip and the subsequent demise of the Cold War structure, making it a critical moment directly related to the end of bi-polarity. Without the wall, the division of Europe, which underpinned the bi-polar world, ceased to exist.

The incorrect option is 3:

The End of the Warsaw Pact is another event intrinsically tied to the dissolution of the bi-polar system. The Warsaw Pact was the Soviet-led military alliance established in 1955 to counter NATO. Its formal dissolution in July 1991, following the political changes in Eastern Europe, signalled the formal end of the Soviet military bloc. This eliminated one of the two major military-ideological groupings that formed the two 'poles' of the bi-polar world, thereby marking its conclusive end. A bi-polar system cannot exist without two defining military and political alliances facing off against each other.

The incorrect option is 4:

The Popular Mass uprisings in East Europe, often referred to as the Revolutions of 1989 (such as those in Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, and Romania), were the fundamental catalyst for the collapse of Soviet hegemony. These non-violent, often spontaneous movements against communist regimes demonstrated that the USSR was no longer willing or able to intervene militarily to maintain its satellite states, as it had done previously in Hungary (1956) or Czechoslovakia (1968). The rapid fall of these Soviet-aligned governments stripped the Soviet Union of its sphere of influence, directly leading to the final disintegration of the communist pole in international relations.

(Tiananmen Square Violence)

(Demolition of Berlin Wall)

(End of Warsaw Pact)

(Popular Mass uprisings in East Europe)

The correct option is 1:

Trygve Lie served as the first Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1946 to 1952. His tenure coincided with the very early and increasingly tense years of the Cold War. The crucial point of contention that led to the Soviet Union’s opposition to his second term was his firm stance on the Korean War (1950–1953). When North Korea invaded South Korea in June 1950, Trygve Lie swiftly condemned the action and strongly supported the United Nations Security Council's decision to authorize intervention, viewing it as an act of collective security against aggression. The Soviet Union, which was boycotting the Security Council at the time, was furious over this move and Lie’s vocal support for the UN action. They considered him a tool of the Western powers, particularly the United States, and declared him persona non grata. When his initial five-year term was set to expire in 1951, the Soviet Union used its veto power in the Security Council to block his formal re-election. Since the UN Charter mandates agreement from all five permanent members of the Security Council for the appointment of the Secretary-General, the stalemate meant Lie could not be formally reappointed. To bypass the Soviet veto, the General Assembly, on the recommendation of the United States, voted to extend his term for three more years, escalating the diplomatic confrontation. Trygve Lie eventually resigned in November 1952, stating that the hostility of one major power made his continued effective functioning impossible.

The incorrect option is 2:
Dag Hammarskjöld, the second Secretary-General (1953–1961), actually had a complex relationship with the Soviet Union, but the primary opposition leading to a non-renewal of a second term was directed at Lie. Hammarskjöld initially had decent relations with the USSR, who supported his appointment. However, Soviet relations dramatically worsened after his vigorous actions during the Congo Crisis (1960–1961). The Soviet Union, led by Nikita Khrushchev, demanded that the office of the Secretary-General be replaced by a three-person "troika" representing Western, Communist, and non-aligned blocs, essentially proposing to neutralize the office's independence. While this was a profound show of Soviet opposition to his leadership, it occurred during his second term, and he died in office before his term’s end. The opposition was not to his reappointment for a second term, but to his continuation during his second term.

The incorrect option is 3:
U Thant (1961–1971) of Burma was appointed following the death of Dag Hammarskjöld. He was considered a neutral figure from the Non-Aligned Movement. While he was criticized by the US for his handling of the Vietnam War and by the Soviet Union for certain actions, he actually served two full terms and was not primarily blocked from a second term by the USSR. In fact, he was unanimously reappointed for a second term in 1966. U Thant voluntarily decided not to seek a third term, having served for ten years, making the question of Soviet opposition to his re-election for a second term irrelevant.

The incorrect option is 4:
Kurt Waldheim (1972–1981) served two terms as Secretary-General. During his selection process in 1971, both the US and USSR preferred him over the incumbent U Thant. He was initially vetoed by China, but eventually secured the position with the support of both the US and the USSR. Although he was strongly opposed and ultimately blocked from serving a third term in 1981, this opposition came primarily from China and the United States, not the Soviet Union, which actually supported him for a third term. Therefore, the Soviet opposition targeted Trygve Lie for a second term during the Korean War crisis, not Kurt Waldheim.

The correct option is 1:

The incorrect option is 2:

The incorrect option is 3:

The incorrect option is 4:

The correct option is 1:

Leo Tolstoy (1828–1910), the great Russian novelist and thinker, is deeply associated with the philosophy of Christian anarchism and radical pacifism, or nonviolence. His theory of nonviolence, which he developed later in his life, stemmed from a profound rejection of all forms of violence, particularly those executed by the state. Tolstoy's pacifism was rooted in his literal interpretation of the Sermon on the Mount, especially the commandment "resist not evil." He believed that the state, built upon coercion, military power, and taxes, was fundamentally an institution of violence, and thus, true moral consciousness required non-participation in its functions, including military service and judicial processes. His ideas, articulated in works like The Kingdom of God Is Within You, went beyond simple opposition to war; they advocated for absolute nonresistance to evil by force. This radical commitment to nonviolence exerted significant influence on subsequent global pacifist leaders, most famously Mahatma Gandhi. Therefore, among the options provided, Tolstoy is the definitive historical figure associated with the philosophy of Pacifism.

The incorrect option is 2:

Mikhail Bakunin (1814–1876) was a prominent Russian revolutionary anarchist. While Bakunin opposed the state like Tolstoy, his political philosophy centered on the need for violent social revolution to abolish all forms of authority, including the state and private property, and establish a stateless, socialist society. Anarchism, in Bakunin's revolutionary sense, relies on direct action, including insurrection and revolutionary violence, to overthrow existing power structures. This active, revolutionary approach is fundamentally incompatible with the principles of pacifism, which strictly adheres to nonviolence and nonresistance as a moral and political stance. Bakunin's methodology required the violent destruction of the old order, placing him firmly outside the camp of Pacifism.

The incorrect option is 3:

Benito Mussolini (1883–1945) was the founder of Fascism and the totalitarian leader of Italy. Fascism is an ideology characterized by extreme nationalism, totalitarianism, militarism, and imperialism. Mussolini glorified war, viewing it as the highest expression of a nation's strength and a necessary tool for imperial expansion and national vitality. His regime built a powerful military and engaged in aggressive foreign policies. This ideology is the polar opposite of Pacifism, which condemns war and violence in all circumstances. His core political beliefs embraced expansionism and militarism, making him strongly anti-pacifist.

The incorrect option is 4:

Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770–1831) was an influential German philosopher whose political thought is characterized by his emphasis on the state as the highest embodiment of rational ethical life. Far from advocating pacifism, Hegel viewed war not merely as a necessary evil, but sometimes as an ethical event that allowed the State to assert its sovereignty and maintain its health. He famously suggested that war prevents a nation from becoming stagnant, serving as a powerful moral purgative. His philosophy thus elevates the role of the state and military conflict in historical development and morality, which fundamentally contradicts the core tenets of pacifism.

The correct option is 1:
(The Kingdom of God Is Within You)

The incorrect option is 2:

The incorrect option is 3:

The incorrect option is 4:

The correct option is 2:
The Strategic Arms Limitation Talks (SALT II) treaty was a crucial component of détente, the period of easing Cold War tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union during the 1970s. This agreement was the culmination of years of negotiations following the signing of SALT I in 1972. The central aim of SALT II was to establish concrete limits on the number of strategic nuclear weapons and delivery vehicles held by both superpowers, specifically placing restrictions on intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launchers, submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) launchers, and heavy bombers. The treaty was signed in Vienna on June 18, 1979, by U.S. President Jimmy Carter and Soviet General Secretary Leonid Brezhnev. President Carter viewed the treaty as a vital step towards global stability and arms control, aiming to secure mutually agreed-upon ceilings for their respective nuclear arsenals. Although signed, the treaty faced significant political opposition in the U.S. Senate, which refused to ratify it after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan later that year. However, both nations generally adhered to the terms of the treaty until 1986. Therefore, the leaders who officially concluded and signed the SALT II agreement were Jimmy Carter and Leonid Brezhnev.

The incorrect option is 1:
Nixon and Brezhnev signed the first agreement in this series, the Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty (SALT I), in Moscow in May 1972. SALT I included the Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM) Treaty and an Interim Agreement on Offensive Arms, focusing on limiting anti-ballistic missile systems and temporarily freezing some offensive missile deployments. While Nixon and Brezhnev were instrumental in launching the détente era and concluding the first significant arms control agreement, they were not the signatories for SALT II. The negotiations for SALT II spanned across Nixon's tenure, but the final agreement was reached and signed by his successor, President Carter.

The incorrect option is 3:
Mikhail Gorbachev and George Bush (Senior) were the leaders of the Soviet Union and the United States, respectively, toward the end of the Cold War and into the post-Cold War transition. Their discussions and agreements focused on later arms reduction treaties, such as the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START I), which was signed in 1991. START I went beyond limitation (as in SALT) to mandate actual reductions in strategic offensive arms. By the time Bush and Gorbachev were signing treaties, the SALT II era had long passed, and the Cold War structure was collapsing, making them too late to be signatories of the 1979 agreement.

The incorrect option is 4:
Boris Yeltsin and George Bush (Senior) were involved in forging relations between the U.S. and the Russian Federation after the official dissolution of the Soviet Union in December 1991. Yeltsin was the first President of the Russian Federation. Together, they signed the START II treaty in 1993, which aimed for deeper cuts in strategic nuclear warheads than START I. This period marks the relationship between the two nations after the Cold War had officially ended. As SALT II was a product of the Cold War détente era, signed in 1979 while the Soviet Union was still intact and led by Brezhnev, Yeltsin was not a party to the treaty.

The correct option is 2:

The incorrect option is 1 (निक्सन व ब्रेज़नेव ने):

The incorrect option is 3 (मिखाइल गोर्बाचेव और जॉर्ज बुश (सीनियर) ने):

The incorrect option is 4 (बोरिस येल्तसिन और जॉर्ज बुश (सीनियर) ने):

The correct option is 4:

The correct option is 4: South Africa.

The question asks to identify the country that is not a member of the G4 nations, specifically defined as the group lobbying for permanent seats on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The G4 is an alliance comprising four countries: Brazil, Germany, India, and Japan. These nations are significant emerging or major economies that believe they deserve permanent representation on the UNSC due to their global importance, population size, economic power, and capacity to contribute to world peace and security. They mutually support each other's bids for permanent seats as part of the broader effort to reform the Security Council, which many view as outdated since its current permanent members reflect the post-World War II power structure. Since the actual members are Germany, Japan, India, and Brazil, South Africa is the country from the list that is not part of this specific political alliance. South Africa is a significant global player and is part of other groups, such as the IBSA Dialogue Forum (India, Brazil, South Africa) and BRICS, but not the G4 alliance dedicated to UNSC permanent seat bids.

The incorrect option is 1: Germany.

Germany is one of the four original members of the G4 alliance. As the largest economy in Europe and a major contributor to the UN budget and peacekeeping operations, Germany believes it should hold a permanent seat on the UNSC. This bid for permanent membership is part of its post-reunification foreign policy goals aimed at increasing its influence in global governance structures. Therefore, Germany is central to the G4 group and is an active participant in supporting the bids of the other members.

The incorrect option is 2: Japan.

Japan is another founding member of the G4. With the world's third-largest economy and consistent major financial contributions to the United Nations, Japan has long sought a permanent seat on the Security Council to reflect its global stature and commitment to international cooperation. Japan is a key member of the G4 alliance and its inclusion in the group makes this option incorrect for the question that asks for a non-member.

The incorrect option is 3: India.

India is an official member of the G4 nations. As the world's most populous nation and a rapidly growing major economy, India argues that its democratic credentials and peacekeeping efforts strongly qualify it for a permanent seat on the UNSC. India's inclusion in the G4 group is based on the shared goal of achieving permanent status, making it a core member of this alliance and therefore an incorrect choice for the non-member category.

The correct option is (4):

The incorrect option is (1):

The incorrect option is (2):

The incorrect option is (3):

The correct option is 3:

The correct ascending chronological order of the four Cold War events is B-C-A-D. This sequence is derived from the historical dates of these significant confrontations and policies, which illustrate the escalating tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold War period.1. Suez Crisis (B): This event took place in October-November 1956. It involved an invasion of Egypt by Israel, followed by Britain and France, after Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser nationalized the Suez Canal. The crisis highlighted the shift in global power, demonstrating the waning influence of traditional European powers and the new dominance of the US and USSR, as both superpowers exerted pressure that ultimately led to the withdrawal of the invading forces.

2. Eisenhower Doctrine (C): This was announced by U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower in January 1957, shortly after the Suez Crisis. The doctrine stated that a country could request American economic or military aid if it was threatened by another state controlled by international communism. It was explicitly created to counter Soviet influence in the Middle East following the vacuum left by Britain and France after the Suez Crisis.

3. Bay of Pigs Invasion (A): This event occurred on April 17, 1961. It was a failed attempt by CIA-sponsored Cuban exiles to overthrow Fidel Castro's communist government in Cuba. This debacle significantly embarrassed the newly inaugurated Kennedy administration, further pushing Cuba toward the Soviet Union and contributing to the environment of high tension that preceded the next major crisis.

4. Cuba Missile Crisis (D): This crisis took place in October 1962. It was the closest the world ever came to nuclear war during the Cold War, triggered by the discovery of Soviet ballistic missile installations in Cuba. The thirteen-day standoff was resolved when the Soviet Union agreed to remove the missiles in exchange for a public pledge by the US not to invade Cuba and a private agreement to remove US missiles from Turkey. Therefore, the only correct ascending chronological sequence is B (1956), C (1957), A (1961), D (1962).

The incorrect option is D-C-A-B:

Option 1 proposes the order D-C-A-B. This sequence is incorrect because it places the Cuba Missile Crisis (D, 1962) first and the Suez Crisis (B, 1956) last. Chronologically, the Suez Crisis in 1956 predates all other listed events. The Cuba Missile Crisis, occurring in 1962, was a later, far more dangerous event resulting from the preceding Cold War escalations, including the Bay of Pigs Invasion (A, 1961). The arrangement of C (Eisenhower Doctrine, 1957) followed by A (Bay of Pigs, 1961) is correct within this sequence, but the overall placement of D and B makes the entire option fundamentally wrong.

The incorrect option is A-B-C-D:

Option 2 proposes the order A-B-C-D. This sequence incorrectly places the Bay of Pigs Invasion (A, 1961) as the first event. The Suez Crisis (B, 1956) and the Eisenhower Doctrine (C, 1957) both occurred before the Bay of Pigs Invasion. While this option places the Cuba Missile Crisis (D, 1962) correctly at the end, its starting point is historically inaccurate. The major events that set the stage for later crises in the Middle East (Suez) and the subsequent strategic responses (Eisenhower Doctrine) must appear earlier than the Cuba-related incidents of the 1960s.

The incorrect option is C-A-D-B:

Option 4 proposes the order C-A-D-B. This sequence is incorrect because it begins with the Eisenhower Doctrine (C, 1957), placing it before the Suez Crisis (B, 1956). Although the Eisenhower Doctrine was a direct result of the power vacuum created by the Suez Crisis, the crisis itself happened first. Furthermore, placing the Suez Crisis (B) as the final event is chronologically false, as it was one of the earliest major international crises of the post-World War II period listed here. The 1960s events (A and D) must occur later than the 1950s events (B and C).

The correct option is 3:

The incorrect option is 1: D-C-A-B

The incorrect option is 2: A-B-C-D

The incorrect option is 4: C-A-D-B

The correct option is 4:
The Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), often nicknamed "Star Wars," is the option that is not related to arms control or disarmament. SDI was a massive, ambitious research and development program announced by U.S. President Ronald Reagan in 1983. Its goal was to create a multilayered, strategic defensive system capable of intercepting and destroying incoming ballistic missiles, particularly those launched by the Soviet Union, before they could reach U.S. territory. In concept, SDI aimed to render nuclear weapons "impotent and obsolete" by defending against them, rather than limiting or reducing their numbers. SDI fundamentally departed from the previous Cold War strategy of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) and was viewed by the Soviet Union not as a measure of disarmament, but as a dangerous escalation of the arms race, especially into space. While proponents argued it was a path to peace through defense, its primary function was weaponizing defense, which is the opposite goal of treaties like SALT or START, which focus on quantitative and qualitative limitations on offensive weapons.

The incorrect option is 1:
START stands for the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty. The first START treaty (START I) was signed in 1991 between the U.S. and the Soviet Union (later implemented with its successor states) and explicitly aimed at reducing the deployed strategic nuclear weapons and their delivery systems. Subsequent iterations, such as New START, continue to serve as the primary framework for verifiable bilateral nuclear disarmament between the U.S. and Russia. Therefore, START is intrinsically related to arms reduction and control.

The incorrect option is 2:
MTCR stands for the Missile Technology Control Regime. This is an informal, voluntary political understanding established in 1987 among member states (Partners) to curb the proliferation of missiles and missile technology capable of delivering weapons of mass destruction, particularly nuclear warheads. By restricting the export of equipment and technology necessary to develop missiles, MTCR acts as an essential component of the global non-proliferation and arms control efforts, even though it is not a legally binding treaty like SALT or START.

The incorrect option is 3:
SALT refers to the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks, which resulted in two major agreements during the Cold War. SALT I (1972) included the Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM) Treaty and an Interim Agreement limiting the number of U.S. and Soviet intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) and submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) forces. SALT II (signed in 1979 but never ratified by the U.S. Senate) sought further quantitative limits on strategic offensive arms. Both phases of SALT were crucial, early attempts at bilateral arms control between the superpowers to place verifiable ceilings on the nuclear arms race.

The correct option is 1:

The correct option is 1: General Agreement on Trade and Tariff. The World Trade Organization (WTO) was officially established on January 1, 1995, as the permanent, institutional successor to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT). The GATT was a provisional international trade agreement signed in 1947, primarily aimed at substantially reducing tariffs and other trade barriers, and eliminating preferences, on a reciprocal and mutually advantageous basis. For nearly five decades, the GATT provided the framework for multilateral trade negotiations, including several major rounds like the Kennedy Round and the Tokyo Round, which were instrumental in reducing global tariffs. However, as global trade evolved and became more complex, covering areas like intellectual property, services, and investment, the GATT's structure, which lacked a strong institutional foundation and a robust dispute settlement mechanism, proved inadequate. The final round of GATT negotiations, the Uruguay Round (1986–1994), culminated in the creation of the Marrakesh Agreement, which established the WTO. The WTO incorporated and expanded upon the existing GATT rules (known as GATT 1994) and provided a permanent institutional framework, a single undertaking for all agreements, and a much stronger and binding Dispute Settlement Body, making it the definitive successor to the provisional GATT framework.

The incorrect option is 2: General Arrangement on Trade and Tariff. This option is incorrect because "General Arrangement on Trade and Tariff" is simply a misstatement or misspelling of the actual predecessor organization. The correct and recognized name of the agreement that preceded the WTO is the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT). Therefore, while the wording is similar, it does not refer to any formal or historical international trade agreement or organization. It is essential for students to be precise with the names of international institutions when answering questions of this nature.

The incorrect option is 3: United Nations Conference on Trade & Development. This option is incorrect because the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is a permanent intergovernmental body established in 1964. UNCTAD's main focus is to help developing countries integrate more effectively into the world economy and to address their specific trade and development challenges. Unlike the WTO, which is a contractual, rule-based organization governing trade relations, UNCTAD is primarily an advisory body and forum for debate within the UN system, meaning it does not serve as the institutional precursor to the WTO.

The incorrect option is 4: United Nations Development Programme. This option is incorrect because the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN's global development network. Established in 1965, its mandate is focused on helping countries eliminate poverty and achieve sustainable economic growth and human development. The UNDP is not involved in setting or enforcing the rules of international trade, which is the core function of the WTO. The two organizations have completely distinct mandates and functions within the global governance framework, and the UNDP has no historical relationship of being succeeded by the WTO.

The correct option is 1:

(General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade - GATT)

The incorrect option is 2:

(General Arrangement on Trade and Tariffs)

The incorrect option is 3:

(United Nations Conference on Trade and Development - UNCTAD)

The incorrect option is 4:

The correct option is 1:

The correct option is the European Union (EU). The G-20, or Group of Twenty, is the premier forum for international economic cooperation, bringing together the world's major developed and developing economies. It comprises 19 countries and the European Union, making it the only regional grouping that holds full membership status. The EU is represented at G-20 meetings by the President of the European Commission and the President of the European Council. This unique membership reflects the EU's status as a significant global economic bloc, representing a vast single market and coordinating economic policies across its member states. The EU's inclusion is essential because its collective Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and population make it an influential actor in global trade, finance, and climate policy, fulfilling the G-20's goal of coordinating policy responses among key economic powers.

The incorrect option is 2:

Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) is an inter-governmental forum for 21 member economies in the Pacific Rim that promotes free trade throughout the Asia-Pacific region. While several individual APEC members are also G-20 members (such as the USA, China, Japan, Canada, Australia, and Mexico), APEC itself as a regional grouping is not a full member of the G-20. APEC’s primary focus is on economic facilitation, trade liberalization, and technical cooperation across the diverse Pacific economies, rather than high-level global economic policy coordination in the manner of the G-20. Although APEC's work is relevant to global economic issues, it does not hold the permanent institutional status within the G-20 that the EU does. Therefore, APEC as a grouping is not formally counted among the 20 members of the forum.

The incorrect option is 3:

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a regional intergovernmental organization comprising ten member states in Southeast Asia. ASEAN's key objectives revolve around accelerating economic growth, social progress, and cultural development in the region, as well as promoting regional peace and stability. Similar to APEC, several ASEAN member countries are also G-20 members (Indonesia being the most prominent example, and sometimes guest members are invited). However, ASEAN as a collective entity is not a standing member of the G-20. Its focus is explicitly regional, and while it interacts with major global bodies, it does not participate in the G-20 as an official member, but rather as an invited guest when the G-20 presidency deems it appropriate, particularly if an ASEAN member holds the presidency.

The incorrect option is 4:

The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) is a regional bloc of 32 sovereign countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. CELAC aims to foster political dialogue, regional integration, and cooperation among its member states. It was founded more recently than the other groups listed, and its mandate is specifically focused on strengthening Latin American and Caribbean voices and promoting regional development without the participation of North American states like the US and Canada. Although countries like Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico are G-20 members, CELAC as a pan-regional grouping has no official membership status within the G-20 framework. Its main diplomatic activities are concentrated on coordinating positions within the region and with other external partners, but not as a full G-20 participant.

(Community of Latin American and Caribbean States)

The correct option is 1:
Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) was the official name used by the U.S. government for the Global War on Terrorism, starting in 2001 after the September 11 terrorist attacks. The initial and most central phase of OEF began in October 2001 with the invasion of Afghanistan. The primary objective of this operation was to dismantle the Al-Qaeda terrorist network and remove the Taliban regime, which was harboring Al-Qaeda and its leader, Osama bin Laden. The U.S. and coalition forces sought to eliminate Al-Qaeda's operational capability and infrastructure, and to stabilize Afghanistan by establishing a non-Taliban government, thereby preventing the country from being used as a base for future terrorist activities against the United States and its allies. Therefore, OEF is intrinsically linked to the military campaign against Al-Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan. Although various related military missions spanned several regions globally under the umbrella of OEF, the defining and sustained effort was undoubtedly the one waged in Afghanistan until the cessation of U.S. combat operations in 2014, as part of the broader effort to counter the widespread insurgency and ensure a viable government could function.

The incorrect option is 2:
Israel's invasion on Gaza Strip is not related to Operation Enduring Freedom. Israel's military operations in the Gaza Strip are typically named independently and are focused on conflicts with Palestinian militant groups like Hamas. These operations, such as Operation Cast Lead (2008–2009) or Operation Protective Edge (2014), are distinct regional conflicts specific to the Israeli-Palestinian issue and are separate from the global mandate of Operation Enduring Freedom, which targeted Al-Qaeda and associated terrorist groups following the 9/11 attacks. There is no direct operational or strategic link connecting OEF to Israel’s tactical incursions into Gaza.

The incorrect option is 3:
Missile attack on Sudan refers most likely to the 1998 U.S. cruise missile strike on the Al-Shifa pharmaceutical factory in Khartoum, Sudan. This specific operation was named Operation Infinite Reach and was carried out in response to the bombings of the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. Operation Infinite Reach predates Operation Enduring Freedom (which began in 2001) and was a targeted response under a different set of strategic objectives focused on immediate retaliation against terrorist infrastructure, making it a separate event in the chronology of the Global War on Terrorism's precursor operations.

The incorrect option is 4:
The First Gulf War, officially known as Operation Desert Storm, took place much earlier, from August 1990 to February 1991. This conflict was initiated by a U.S.-led coalition to expel Iraqi forces under Saddam Hussein from Kuwait, after Iraq's invasion. It was a conventional conflict focused on state sovereignty and territorial integrity, and it predates the post-9/11 "War on Terror" framework and its specific naming convention, Operation Enduring Freedom, by over a decade. The objectives, time frame, and opponents involved in the First Gulf War were completely different from those of OEF.
