Which of the following reptiles is a living fossil ?
The correct option is 1: Sphenodon
Sphenodon, commonly known as the Tuatara, is universally recognized as the prime example of a 'living fossil' among all extant reptiles, making Option 1 the correct choice. The term "living fossil" refers to a species that has survived for a geological period of time with little or no morphological change and is often the sole surviving member of an ancient lineage. Sphenodon belongs to the order Rhynchocephalia, which flourished during the Mesozoic Era over 200 million years ago, co-existing with early dinosaurs. Today, the Tuatara is the only remaining species in this entire order, with all its close relatives having gone extinct by the end of the Cretaceous period, highlighting its relic status. Its skeleton retains numerous primitive features, such as the unique diapsid skull with two temporal openings and the presence of a parietal eye (a "third eye") on the top of its head, features that reflect its ancient, unspecialized ancestry. Studying Sphenodon offers biologists a direct and unparalleled window into the anatomy and biology of early reptiles, which is why it holds such a unique position in evolutionary biology.
The incorrect option is 2: Crocodylus
Crocodylus, representing the modern crocodiles, are certainly ancient reptiles, with the lineage of the Order Crocodilia dating back over 85 million years, but they are not considered a true "living fossil" in the same isolated and unchanged way as the Tuatara. While the overall body plan of a crocodile is ancient, its members have undergone significant evolutionary changes and diversification over time, resulting in modern forms that are biologically distinct from their early ancestors. The Crocodylus genus itself is part of a relatively modern radiation within this group, making the term a less precise fit. Furthermore, the group is diverse, containing numerous extant families and species across the globe, which contradicts the single-survivor, relic nature typical of a true "living fossil."
The incorrect option is 3: Varanus
Varanus, or the monitor lizards, are part of the Squamata order, which includes all modern lizards and snakes, and represents the largest and most evolutionarily dynamic group of extant reptiles. This group is characterized by highly specialized features, such as kinetic skulls and advanced sensory organs, demonstrating extensive evolutionary modification and success. Monitor lizards themselves are highly evolved and successful predators that have diversified into numerous niches across the world in relatively recent geological time. Their relatively modern and dynamic evolutionary history, alongside their close relationship with the vast array of other modern lizards, strictly excludes them from the "living fossil" classification.
The incorrect option is 4: Tortoise
Tortoises belong to the order Testudines (or Chelonia), a lineage whose basic body plan, characterized by the shell, has been remarkably stable for approximately 220 million years, which is an ancient origin. While this morphological stability is impressive, the order Testudines is a broad, diverse, and evolutionarily successful group with many distinct families, genera, and species, including both aquatic turtles and terrestrial tortoises. Unlike the Tuatara, which represents a single, relic species of an otherwise extinct order, tortoises and turtles are widespread and have successfully adapted to a vast range of global habitats. Their evolutionary success and diversity prevent them from fitting the strict definition of an isolated, virtually unchanged "living fossil" of a defunct group.
The correct option is (1): स्फीनोडॉन
The incorrect option is (2): क्रोकोडीलस
The incorrect option is (3): वैरेनस
The incorrect option is (4): टोरटोइज
Which of the following is not true about chick embryology?
The correct option is 1: The Eggshell is formed of Silica.
This statement is not true and is the correct answer to the question. The chemical composition of the avian eggshell is a well-established biological fact. The eggshell is composed overwhelmingly of Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3), which typically makes up about 95% or more of its dry weight. This mineral compound is what gives the eggshell its hard, rigid structure, forming a crucial protective barrier for the embryo and its contents. Silica, or Silicon Dioxide (SiO2), is a completely distinct substance and is not the primary constituent of the eggshell. Therefore, stating that the eggshell is formed of Silica is factually incorrect regarding chick embryology.
The incorrect option is 2: Cleavage in chick embryo is meroblastic.
This statement is ** true** about chick embryology. The chick egg is a classic example of a telolecithal egg, meaning it contains a very large amount of densely packed yolk. Due to this massive yolk quantity, the cleavage furrow, which is the indentation that divides a cell, is physically prevented from cutting through the entire egg. Consequently, cell division is restricted to a small, disc-shaped area of cytoplasm located on top of the yolk, known as the blastodisc. This incomplete and partial pattern of cell division is precisely what is termed meroblastic cleavage.
The incorrect option is 3: Chick embryo receives its nutrition from yolk sac.
This statement is true and highlights the primary role of an extra-embryonic membrane. The chick embryo is a cleidoic egg, meaning its development occurs entirely outside the mother's body, and thus it must rely on the stored resources within the egg. The yolk sac is the membrane that grows to enclose the yolk mass. Its epithelial cells are specialized for digesting, absorbing, and transporting the rich nutrients—including proteins, fats, and vitamins—from the yolk into the embryo's circulatory system. This mechanism is essential for the growth and survival of the chick embryo throughout its incubation period.
The incorrect option is 4: Eggshell membranes are two in number.
This statement is also true. Directly beneath the outer calcareous shell layer, a chicken egg is protected by two distinct layers of protein fiber: the outer shell membrane and the inner shell membrane. These two transparent membranes are surprisingly strong and function as an important secondary line of defense against microbial contamination. They are typically found lying closely together, but at the larger end of the egg, they separate to enclose a small pocket of air, which is known as the air cell.
A man is affected by brachydactyly, an autosomal dominant trait that causes shortening of several fingers. What is the risk that the man's first child will have brachydactyly ?
The correct option is 4: 0.5
The correct option is 4, which represents a 50% risk, or 0.5 probability, that the man's first child will inherit brachydactyly. To understand this, we must first analyze the mode of inheritance: autosomal dominant. This means the trait is carried on a non-sex chromosome (autosome), and only one copy of the disease-causing allele (let's use 'B') is sufficient to cause the condition. An unaffected individual must have two copies of the normal allele (let's use 'b'), making their genotype bb. Since the man is affected, his genotype must be either homozygous dominant (BB) or heterozygous (Bb). For rare or medically significant autosomal dominant disorders in standard genetics problems, it is almost always assumed that the affected individual is heterozygous (Bb). This is because the homozygous dominant condition (BB) is often lethal or extremely rare, and if the man were BB, the risk to the child would be 100%, which is not the correct answer. We must also assume the man's partner is unaffected, making her genotype bb. Therefore, the genetic cross is Bb×bb. When you create a Punnett square for this cross, the possible offspring genotypes are Bb,Bb,bb,bb. This yields a 1:1 ratio, or 50 chance, for the child to inherit the Bb genotype and thus be affected by brachydactyly.
The incorrect option is 1: 1.00 (100%)
A 100 risk would imply that every child born will have brachydactyly. This outcome would only be possible if the affected father's genotype was homozygous dominant (BB) and the cross was BB×bb or BB×Bb. In both of these scenarios, all offspring would inherit at least one dominant 'B' allele. However, this is an extremely rare and non-standard assumption for a dominant human disorder like brachydactyly, and it would lead to a different answer than the one provided as correct.
The incorrect option is 2: 0.75 (75%)
A 75 risk is the characteristic probability of an offspring inheriting the dominant phenotype when both parents are heterozygous for the autosomal dominant trait, meaning the cross would be Bb×Bb. This cross yields genotypes BB,Bb,Bb,bb, where BB, Bb, and Bb all result in the affected phenotype, totaling three out of four possibilities, or 75. This is incorrect because the problem does not state the man's partner is also affected, so we must assume she is the common unaffected phenotype, bb.
The incorrect option is 3: 0.25 (25%)
A 25 risk corresponds to the probability of an offspring inheriting the homozygous recessive genotype (bb) from a cross between two heterozygous parents (Bb×Bb), which is the chance of having an unaffected child in that scenario. This percentage is also the chance of having a homozygous dominant child (BB) in the same cross. Since we are assuming the standard Bb×bb cross, where the risk is 50, and the 25 value comes from an entirely different genetic mating scenario, this option is factually incorrect for the described parents.
The correct option is (4):
2. a से 'a' का संयोजन → aa (सामान्य)
The incorrect option is (1):
The incorrect option is (2):
The incorrect option is (3):
Which one of the following is used for bread preparation ?
The correct option is 2: Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Saccharomyces cerevisiae is the single most important microorganism used in the preparation of leavened bread, earning it the common name of Baker's Yeast. This eukaryotic, facultative anaerobic fungus is responsible for the process known as alcoholic fermentation, which is crucial for making the dough rise. When incorporated into dough, it metabolizes the simple sugars present—whether initially added or enzymatically released from starch in the flour—and converts them primarily into carbon dioxide (CO2) and ethanol. The carbon dioxide gas gets trapped within the elastic network of gluten protein in the dough, forming small bubbles that expand and cause the dough to increase significantly in volume, a process called leavening. This action determines the light, porous, and desirable texture of the final baked product. Furthermore, the metabolic byproducts of this yeast contribute a complex array of volatile organic compounds that are essential for developing the characteristic flavor and aroma of bread.
The incorrect option is 1: Saccharomyces ludwigii
Although Saccharomyces ludwigii is a species of yeast, it is not the primary or commercially used organism for bread preparation. This species is generally known in the field of industrial microbiology, often associated with specific types of fruit fermentation, or sometimes identified as a spoilage organism in high-sugar environments like concentrated juices or syrups. While it is capable of fermentation, its fermentation rates and specific characteristics are not optimized for the robust and rapid production of carbon dioxide gas required for efficient dough leavening. Consequently, using this species would yield inconsistent and poor results compared to the specialized capabilities of Baker's Yeast.
The incorrect option is 3: Rhizopus stolonifer
Rhizopus stolonifer is a filamentous fungus more commonly known as the black bread mold, which clearly indicates it is a microbial contaminant, not an ingredient for preparation. This organism causes the spoilage and decay of baked goods, thriving on moist surfaces and producing characteristic fuzzy, white mycelia and black spore-filled sporangia. Its presence signifies that the bread is past its consumption date and should be discarded, as its activity involves the breakdown and decomposition of the finished product, not its leavening or creation. It poses a hazard to food quality rather than contributing to it.
The incorrect option is 4: Rhizopus fermentis
Rhizopus fermentis is another species from the Rhizopus genus of fungi, but its industrial application lies in a completely different area of food science. This mold is an essential component in the traditional preparation of tempeh, a popular Indonesian food made from fermented soybeans. Its primary function in tempeh production is to grow mycelial threads that bind the boiled soybeans into a dense, compact cake structure. It lacks the specific physiological machinery and metabolic pathway optimization necessary to quickly and efficiently produce the large volumes of carbon dioxide required to leaven a wheat-flour dough.
The correct option is (2):
The incorrect option is (1):
The incorrect option is (3):
The incorrect option is (4):
The genes controlling the seven pea characters studied by Mendel are now known to be located on how many different chromosomes?
The correct option is 1: Four
The question asks about the modern genetic understanding of Gregor Mendel's seminal experiments with pea plants (Pisum sativum). Mendel investigated the inheritance patterns of seven distinct character pairs, such as seed shape (round/wrinkled) and flower color (purple/white). At the time, he formulated the Law of Independent Assortment, which suggested that the inheritance of one trait was independent of another. Although Mendel had no knowledge of chromosomes, modern research confirms that the genes controlling these seven traits are surprisingly clustered onto only four of the pea plant's seven homologous pairs of chromosomes. Specifically, the seven genes are found on Chromosome 1, Chromosome 4, Chromosome 5, and Chromosome 7. Mendel's successful observation of independent assortment, despite some genes being on the same chromosome (linked genes), is largely attributed to a stroke of luck: either the linked genes he selected were very far apart on the chromosome, making crossing over highly probable, or he simply did not publish results that showed linkage.
The incorrect option is 2: Two
The option of two chromosomes is factually incorrect as a grouping of two would imply that five of the seven genes were genetically linked and would have resulted in non-Mendelian inheritance patterns. For independent assortment to occur, the genes must either reside on different chromosomes or be very distant from each other on the same chromosome. Placing the seven genes on only two chromosomes would have led to pervasive gene linkage, which Mendel did not report and which would contradict his famous 9:3:3:1 dihybrid cross ratio. Mendel's experiments would have failed to establish his laws of inheritance if the linkage was this extensive, requiring a higher number of chromosomes to explain the independent segregation of his chosen traits.
The incorrect option is 3: Seven
This option, which matches the number of traits Mendel studied, represents a common but incorrect assumption. The pea plant actually has seven pairs of homologous chromosomes in total. For all seven genes to have truly followed the Law of Independent Assortment with no exceptions for linkage, they would ideally have been located one gene per chromosome pair, which is what this option suggests. However, modern genetic mapping revealed that the genes for the seven characters were not distributed across all seven chromosomes; instead, they were concentrated on only four. Therefore, while the pea plant has seven chromosomes, only four of them carry the genes for the characters Mendel analyzed.
The incorrect option is 4: Five
Although there is some historical confusion and early mapping suggested five chromosomes, the most current and accepted genetic analysis confirms that the seven famous genes are located on four chromosomes: 1, 4, 5, and 7. The misconception of five chromosomes sometimes arises from studies attempting to map a broader range of traits, or due to placing one of the closely linked genes on a separate chromosome for simplicity in older diagrams. Therefore, while five is closer to the correct figure than two or seven, it is not the accurate number determined by modern molecular biology for the canonical set of seven traits. Mendel’s key finding of independent assortment can be explained by the four-chromosome arrangement because, even for the genes located on the same chromosome (like Chromosome 1), the physical distance between them was great enough to prevent noticeable linkage.

The incorrect option is (2): दो
The incorrect option is (3): सात
The incorrect option is (4): पाँच

The correct option is 3:
answer immediately that the cell were from animal source.
The fundamental concept being tested here is the profound biochemical distinction in energy storage between the two major eukaryotic kingdoms: Plantae and Animalia. You are provided with the critical piece of information that a preliminary biochemical test on the homogenized cells revealed the unmistakable presence of glycogen. Glycogen is biologically recognized as the main storage polysaccharide for glucose in animal cells, primarily stored in the liver and muscle tissues. Conversely, the primary storage polysaccharide in plant cells is starch (composed of amylose and amylopectin). Since the presence of glycogen is a clear, definitive, and highly specific biochemical marker for Animalia (or Fungi, but the comparison in the options is animal vs. plant), the student possessing this basic biological knowledge can make the classification instantly. No further physical work or analytical steps are needed; the answer is derived directly from the already-available test result, making it the quickest possible determination.
The incorrect option is 1:
examine the centrifuged sample for the presence of extracts of chloroplasts.
While chloroplasts are indeed a hallmark organelle of plant cells, as they are the site of photosynthesis, attempting to find their "extracts" through further analysis is a less immediate method than using the information you already possess. The proposed action—examining the centrifuged sample for their extracts—is a multi-step process that would require additional time. Following homogenization and centrifugation, the next step would be differential staining, high-resolution microscopy, or a specific pigment (chlorophyll) assay to confirm their identity and integrity. Since the presence of glycogen has already provided a conclusive answer for the animal source, choosing a time-consuming organelle analysis would violate the condition of answering "as quickly as possible."
The incorrect option is 2:
examine the centrifuged sample for the presence of centriole.
Centrioles are organelles that participate in cell division and are responsible for forming the basal bodies of cilia and flagella. While they are a characteristic feature of most animal cells, their use as a definitive marker is flawed for two primary reasons. Firstly, centrioles are also found in the cells of lower plants (like mosses, ferns, and most green algae) and many protists, meaning their presence would not unequivocally exclude a plant source. Secondly, centrioles are sub-microscopic structures that would require specific, high-magnification electron microscopy and potentially specific markers to identify them accurately in a cell homogenate, making this a slow and complex procedure. This approach is much slower and less conclusive than the immediate interpretation of the glycogen test result.
The incorrect option is 4:
It is very difficult to answer whether it is from animal or plant.
This statement is simply factually wrong in the context of the question. The difficulty of identification only arises when the distinguishing feature is shared or ambiguous. In this case, the test result—the presence of glycogen—is a highly specific and fundamental biological difference that clearly separates animals from the vast majority of plants, which use starch for storage. The established presence of glycogen is a perfect "quick answer" piece of evidence, negating any claim that the determination is difficult.

The correct option is 1: Floating ribs in humans - 4
The human skeletal system, which provides structure and protection for vital organs, contains 12 pairs of ribs in the thoracic cage. These ribs are classified into three groups based on their connection to the sternum (breastbone). The first seven pairs are designated as true ribs because they articulate directly with the sternum via their own costal cartilages. The next three pairs (8th, 9th, and 10th) are false ribs, as their cartilage connects indirectly by joining the cartilage of the rib above them. The final two pairs of ribs, the 11th and 12th, are known as the floating ribs. They earn this name because they only connect posteriorly to the vertebrae of the spine and have no anterior cartilaginous attachment to the sternum or to any other rib's cartilage. Since these constitute two pairs, the total number of floating ribs in a typical human is two on the left side and two on the right side, giving a correct total count of 4.
The incorrect option is 2: Amino acids found in proteins - 16
This number is inaccurate in the context of protein biosynthesis. The universally accepted number of canonical or standard amino acids that are genetically encoded and serve as the building blocks for all proteins is 20. These 20 amino acids are incorporated into polypeptide chains during translation based on the triplet codons specified in the messenger RNA. The specific sequence of these 20 amino acids determines the primary structure of the protein, which in turn dictates its unique three-dimensional folding and biological function. While there are other non-standard amino acids, the number 20 is the critical foundation of molecular biology, making 16 an incorrect representation of the standard building blocks.
The incorrect option is 3: Types of diabetes - 6
The major clinical and conceptual classification of diabetes mellitus is typically limited to three primary types. These are Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus, which is an autoimmune condition resulting in absolute insulin deficiency, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, characterized by insulin resistance and relative insulin deficiency, and Gestational Diabetes Mellitus, which occurs during pregnancy. While various classification systems may include other specific subtypes like LADA, MODY, or secondary diabetes, listing '6' as the definitive or correct total number of major types of diabetes is medically non-standard and therefore incorrect for this fundamental biological question.
The incorrect option is 4: Cervical vertebrae in human - 8
The correct count for the number of cervical vertebrae in the human spine is consistently 7. The seven cervical vertebrae, labeled C1 through C7, form the skeleton of the neck and are responsible for supporting the skull and allowing its extensive movement. This number is a remarkable evolutionary conserved trait found in almost all mammals, regardless of neck length. The number 8 is a common point of confusion because there are, in fact, 8 pairs of cervical spinal nerves that emerge from this region. However, the question specifically asks for the number of vertebrae, which are the bony segments, making the count of 7 the correct anatomical fact.

The correct option is (1):
The incorrect option is (2):
The incorrect option is (3):
The incorrect option is (4):
Number of chromatids in one chromosome at metaphase is:
The correct option is 4: Two in both mitosis and meiosis
The concept revolves around the fundamental structure of a chromosome once DNA replication has occurred, which is necessary before both mitotic and meiotic division. In both mitosis and meiosis, a cell enters the division phases only after completing the S phase of the cell cycle, during which all genetic material is duplicated. Therefore, by the time the cell reaches metaphase—the stage where chromosomes align at the equatorial plate—each individual chromosome is composed of two identical DNA strands called sister chromatids. These two chromatids are physically joined together by a single centromere. This two-chromatid structure is characteristic of a chromosome in metaphase of mitosis as the cell prepares to separate these sister chromatids. Similarly, in Meiosis I Metaphase, homologous chromosomes are aligned as bivalents, but critically, each individual chromosome within that homologous pair still consists of two sister chromatids. In Meiosis II Metaphase, the homologous pairs have already separated, and the remaining individual chromosomes align once more, each of which also still consists of two sister chromatids. It is only after the centromere splits during mitotic anaphase or meiotic anaphase II that the two sister chromatids separate, and each is then considered a full chromosome consisting of a single chromatid. Thus, at the metaphase stage across both types of cell division (mitosis, meiosis I, and meiosis II), the number of chromatids in one chromosome is consistently two.
The incorrect option is 1: One in mitosis and two in meiosis
This option is biologically inaccurate for the metaphase stage of mitosis. A chromosome only contains a single chromatid after the separation of sister chromatids has occurred in anaphase of mitosis or anaphase II of meiosis. Since DNA replication happens before the M phase, the chromosomes arriving at the mitotic metaphase plate are already duplicated structures, each possessing two sister chromatids. Therefore, the claim of "one in mitosis" at metaphase is incorrect. The single-chromatid structure is characteristic of the cell in the G1 phase or the final daughter cells, not the alignment phase of division.
The incorrect option is 2: Two in mitosis and four in meiosis
While the "Two in mitosis" part is correct for metaphase, the statement "four in meiosis" contains a common conceptual error. A single chromosome never contains four chromatids; this is structurally impossible. This confusion stems from observing Metaphase I of meiosis, where homologous pairs line up together. This entire unit—the homologous pair—is called a bivalent or tetrad and contains four chromatids in total (two from each homologous chromosome). Since the question asks specifically for the number of chromatids in one chromosome, the correct number for both Meiosis I and Meiosis II metaphase remains two.
The incorrect option is 3: Four in both mitosis and meiosis
This option is factually incorrect because four chromatids are never observed in an individual chromosome during any stage of cell division. Chromosomes are structurally defined as having one chromatid (after anaphase) or two chromatids (after S-phase up to anaphase/anaphase II). The number four only pertains to a tetrad (a homologous pair) in Meiosis I, which is a structure composed of two separate chromosomes. Therefore, claiming a single chromosome has four chromatids, either in mitosis or meiosis, demonstrates a misunderstanding of chromosome nomenclature and structure following replication.
Eggs of insects are:
The correct option is 3: Centrolecithal
The classification of eggs is fundamentally based on the amount of yolk (nutritive material) present and, more importantly, its specific distribution within the egg cell, a concept known as the lecithal pattern. Eggs of insects, which are members of the class Insecta within the phylum Arthropoda, are characteristically classified as Centrolecithal. The term 'centrolecithal' is derived from the Greek words kentron (center) and lekithos (yolk), meaning the yolk is concentrated primarily in the central core of the egg cytoplasm. This large, central yolk mass is surrounded by a thin, continuous layer of active cytoplasm at the periphery, which contains the zygote nucleus. During the earliest stages of insect development, the zygote nucleus undergoes repeated mitotic divisions while remaining in the center of the egg. The resulting nuclei then migrate outward to the periphery to form a layer called the blastoderm, while the central yolk remains uncleaved. This unique structural organization dictates the specialized pattern of cell division known as superficial cleavage, which is a defining feature of most insect embryogenesis.
The incorrect option is 1: Telolecithal
Telolecithal eggs contain a very large and overwhelming amount of yolk that is heavily concentrated at the vegetal pole (one end) of the egg. This extremely uneven distribution effectively pushes the active cytoplasm and the nucleus into a small disc at the animal pole, which is referred to as the blastodisc or germinal disc. The vast yolk mass prohibits the complete division of the egg, meaning cleavage is always meroblastic (partial) and discoidal. This type of egg structure is characteristic of organisms that require a massive food reserve to support their extensive development outside the mother's body, such as birds, most fish, and reptiles. Since insect yolk is centrally located and not confined to a small polar disc, the telolecithal classification does not apply to them.
The incorrect option is 2: Oligolecithal
Oligolecithal eggs, which are also often referred to as Microlecithal, contain a very small or minimal quantity of yolk. In this category, the small amount of yolk is typically distributed fairly uniformly throughout the egg's cytoplasm, leading to the additional classification of isolecithal or homolecithal. Because the yolk content is so sparse, the entire egg can be completely divided by the cleavage furrows, resulting in holoblastic cleavage, which is often equal and synchronous. Oligolecithal eggs are found in organisms that acquire their nutrition from an external source very early in development, such as placental mammals (where the placenta takes over nutrient delivery) and invertebrates like sea urchins and tunicates. Given that insect eggs are provisioned with a substantial, centrally placed yolk mass for larval development, this description is incorrect.
The incorrect option is 4: Mesolecithal
Mesolecithal eggs are characterized by a moderate amount of yolk, which is also unequally distributed, being more concentrated towards the vegetal pole of the egg. The yolk content is greater than in oligolecithal eggs but significantly less than in telolecithal eggs. This moderate, asymmetrical yolk concentration still permits the cleavage furrow to pass through the entire egg, so the cleavage is holoblastic. However, the unequal distribution causes the cleavage to be unequal, resulting in smaller, faster-dividing cells at the animal pole and larger, yolk-laden, slow-dividing cells at the vegetal pole. This specific egg type is typical of amphibians (like frogs and toads) and cyclostomes (such as lampreys). The unique requirement of a central yolk mass for the superficial cleavage process of insect eggs makes the mesolecithal pattern an incorrect classification for the Insecta class.

The correct option is (3): केन्द्रपीतकी
The incorrect option is (1): गोलार्द्धपीतकी
The incorrect option is (2): ओलिगोलेसिथल
The incorrect option is (4): मध्यमपीतकी
Angiotensinogen is produced and secreted by:
The correct option is 3: Liver cells
Angiotensinogen is the foundational protein of the highly complex and critical Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System (RAAS), which serves as a primary regulator of blood pressure, fluid, and electrolyte balance in the body. The Angiotensinogen protein itself is a large, inactive alpha-2-globulin, and its synthesis, production, and continuous secretion into the systemic circulation are performed almost exclusively by the Liver cells (hepatocytes). The liver functions as the primary factory, ensuring a constant supply of this circulating prohormone in the blood. This constant supply is essential because the activity of the entire RAAS is initiated when the kidney enzyme renin cleaves a portion of the circulating Angiotensinogen molecule to form the biologically less active Angiotensin I, which is the immediate precursor to the powerful vasoactive hormone, Angiotensin II. Therefore, the liver's consistent output of Angiotensinogen provides the necessary substrate that makes the RAAS functional, linking systemic metabolism to renal and cardiovascular control.
The incorrect option is 1: Cells lining of the blood vessels
The cells lining the blood vessels, particularly the endothelial cells, play a vital but different role in the RAAS, which is why this option is incorrect. These cells primarily produce and house the Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE), which is predominantly found on the surface of endothelial cells, especially in the lungs and kidneys. ACE's function is to convert the ten-amino-acid peptide Angiotensin I (the product of renin action on Angiotensinogen) into the eight-amino-acid peptide Angiotensin II. Angiotensin II is the active form of the hormone that directly causes vasoconstriction and other effects. Thus, endothelial cells are responsible for the activation of Angiotensin I, not the synthesis of the initial Angiotensinogen precursor.
The incorrect option is 2: Macula densa cells
Macula densa cells are specialized chemosensing cells located within the wall of the distal convoluted tubule of the kidney, and their function is regulatory, not secretory of Angiotensinogen. These cells act as 'salt sensors,' monitoring the concentration of sodium chloride (NaCl) in the fluid passing through the renal tubule. A low concentration of NaCl in the fluid signals the macula densa cells that the blood pressure and glomerular filtration rate (GFR) are too low. In response, they signal the adjacent juxtaglomerular (JG) cells to increase the secretion of renin. Their role is confined to feedback regulation of renin release, which is several steps removed from the primary liver-based synthesis of Angiotensinogen.
The incorrect option is 4: Juxtaglomerular cells
The Juxtaglomerular (JG) cells are a critical element of the renal apparatus, but they produce a different component of the RAAS. Located in the afferent arteriole of the kidney, these cells are modified smooth muscle cells responsible for synthesizing and secreting the enzyme Renin. Renin is the rate-limiting step of the RAAS; its release is triggered by low blood pressure or sympathetic stimulation. Renin is then released into the bloodstream, where it acts upon Angiotensinogen (which was secreted by the liver) to produce Angiotensin I. Therefore, JG cells secrete the enzyme that starts the cascade, not the substrate (Angiotensinogen) that the enzyme acts upon.

The incorrect option is 1:
The incorrect option is 2:
The incorrect option is 4:
Which of the following is responsible for failure of vaccine in infants ?
The correct option is 3:
Maternal antibodies are the primary cause of vaccine failure or reduced efficacy in infants. During pregnancy, the mother passes large quantities of Immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies to the fetus through the placenta, a process called passive immunity. These maternal antibodies provide a protective shield against diseases to which the mother is immune, safeguarding the newborn until their own immune system is mature enough to mount a response. However, this same protective mechanism creates a challenge for vaccination; the high concentration of pre-existing maternal IgG can bind to the antigens present in the vaccine, effectively "masking" them from the infant’s developing immune cells (B-cells and T-cells). This phenomenon, often referred to as "immunological blunting" or interference, prevents the infant's body from recognizing the vaccine's antigen as foreign, thus failing to generate its own active, long-lasting memory response. For this reason, the standard vaccination schedule for many diseases is timed to begin after the levels of maternal IgG naturally wane, typically around six months of age.
The incorrect option is 1:
Serum protease refers to a broad class of enzymes present in the blood that break down proteins by cleaving peptide bonds. While they are crucial components of various biological systems, such as the complement cascade (part of the immune response) and the blood coagulation pathway, they are not the cause of vaccine failure. A vaccine is designed to present a specific antigen, which may be a protein, to the immune system. Although proteases could theoretically degrade some vaccine components, they are highly regulated in the bloodstream and their primary function is general protein turnover or activation of cascades, not the systemic, targeted destruction of vaccine antigens in a manner that universally suppresses the immune response.
The incorrect option is 2:
Endotoxin, or Lipopolysaccharide (LPS), is a component of the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria and is not a natural factor in vaccine failure. Endotoxins are potent pyrogens and inflammatory agents; if present as a contaminant in a vaccine preparation, they would typically trigger a strong, undesirable inflammatory reaction in the infant, potentially causing fever or even septic shock-like symptoms, but they would not inherently suppress the immune response to the vaccine antigen itself. In fact, LPS often acts as an adjuvant, which is a substance that boosts the immune response, making it the opposite of an inhibitor. Therefore, endotoxin is a contamination concern, not a biological mechanism of vaccine failure.
The incorrect option is 4:
Glucose molecule of blood, or blood sugar, is the main energy source for all cells in the body, including those of the immune system. Immune cells, such as lymphocytes and phagocytes, require glucose to fuel the high metabolic demands of proliferation and antibody production that occur during a successful vaccine response. While severe metabolic imbalances, such as poorly controlled diabetes, can impact immune function, the normal presence or concentration of glucose in the blood is essential for, rather than inhibitory to, the vaccine’s action. It is a fundamental nutrient, not an antagonistic molecule that would cause a vaccine to fail.
Of all the land plants, bryophytes alone have independent (A).......... and an attached dependent (B)............
The correct option is 3: (A) Gametophyte; (B) Sporophyte
Bryophytes, a group encompassing mosses, liverworts, and hornworts, hold a unique position among all land plants (Embryophytes) due to the peculiar relationship between their two generations. The life cycle of every land plant involves an Alternation of Generations, cycling between a haploid (n) Gametophyte stage and a diploid (2n) Sporophyte stage. For bryophytes, the most prominent, long-lived, independent, and photosynthetic plant body that we typically observe is the Gametophyte (A). This is the generation responsible for producing gametes (sex cells). In stark contrast to all other land plants, the sporophyte generation in bryophytes—the one that produces spores—is completely dependent on the gametophyte. The Sporophyte (B) is attached to the main gametophyte body, is nutritionally reliant upon it, and is generally short-lived and non-photosynthetic. This relationship, where the Gametophyte is independent and the Sporophyte is attached and dependent, is the hallmark feature that distinguishes bryophytes from all other land plants.
The incorrect option is 1: (A) Sporophyte; (B) Gametophyte
This option is incorrect because it reverses the roles of the two generations in bryophytes. While this relationship—an independent sporophyte and an attached or greatly reduced gametophyte—is characteristic of all other land plants (like ferns, conifers, and flowering plants), it is fundamentally untrue for the bryophytes. The photosynthetic and independent plant in a bryophyte is the Gametophyte (n), not the Sporophyte (2n). The sporophyte, which grows from the fertilized egg, is dependent on the gametophyte for all its nourishment.
The incorrect option is 2: (A) Rhizome; (B) Rhizoids
This option is incorrect because the terms describe physical parts of the plant, not the alternating generations. A rhizome is a specialized, usually subterranean, stem found in vascular plants, which bryophytes lack entirely. Rhizoids are simple, non-vascular, filamentous structures that merely anchor the bryophyte's gametophyte to the substrate. Neither a rhizome nor a rhizoid represents a distinct, entire generation in the plant's life cycle; therefore, they cannot be used to describe the independent and dependent phases.
The incorrect option is 4: (A) Elater; (B) Axis
This option incorrectly matches specific anatomical structures to the general concept of independent and dependent generations. An elater is a specialized, hygroscopic cell found within the spore-containing capsule of certain bryophytes (like liverworts) that aids in spore dispersal, making it only a small part of the dependent sporophyte. The 'Axis' is a general term for the main stalk of the plant body. Both terms are too specific and do not capture the essence of the two distinct, alternating, and whole generations that define the bryophyte life cycle.
The correct option is 3:
(A) युग्मकोद्भिद् (B) बीजाणुद्भिद्
The incorrect option is 1:
(A) बीजाणुद्भिद्; (B) युग्मकोद्भिद्
The incorrect option is 2:
(A) प्रकन्द; (B) मूलाभास
The incorrect option is 4:
(A) इलेटर; (B) अक्ष
Which of the following systems of plant classification is a natural system of classification ?
The correct option is 4: Bentham and Hooker
The system of classification proposed by George Bentham and Joseph Dalton Hooker is universally considered the most important Natural System of Classification for seed plants (Phanerogams). A natural system aims to classify organisms based on the overall, non-evolutionary relationships or natural affinities among them, using as many morphological characters as possible (such as floral, anatomical, and reproductive traits). Their monumental work, Genera Plantarum, published between 1862 and 1883, described nearly 100,000 species across 202 families. Although it was a pre-Darwinian system that did not account for evolutionary (phylogenetic) relationships, its detailed descriptions, practical arrangement, and use of actual specimens made it highly accurate and extremely suitable for practical utility in herbaria and botanical gardens, where it is still used today for plant identification.
The incorrect option is 1: Engler and Prantl
The system developed by Adolf Engler and Karl Prantl, published in Die Natürlichen Pflanzenfamilien, is categorized as a Phylogenetic System of Classification, not a purely natural one. Phylogenetic systems attempt to group organisms according to their evolutionary history and common ancestry. Engler and Prantl's system, one of the earliest phylogenetic approaches, arranged plant groups from simpler to more complex forms, based on the assumption that simpler flower structures (like achlamydeous or apetalous) were more primitive. A major departure from natural systems was their placement of Monocotyledons before Dicotyledons, an arrangement based on a perceived evolutionary sequence rather than overall structural affinity, which is the hallmark of a natural system.
The incorrect option is 2: Hutchinson
John Hutchinson’s classification, detailed in his work The Families of Flowering Plants, is also a later, more evolved Phylogenetic System. Hutchinson’s system explicitly sought to demonstrate the evolutionary paths of flowering plants, often represented as a phylogenetic tree (a 'Hutchinsonian tree'). His classification was based on several key evolutionary dictums, such as the idea that woody plants are more primitive than herbaceous plants, and free petals are more primitive than fused petals. This strict adherence to presumed evolutionary lines, which often separated groups with close overall natural resemblances, distinguishes it sharply from the non-evolutionary approach of a natural system.
The incorrect option is 3: Rendle
Alfred Barton Rendle's system of classification is primarily an adaptation or modification of the previously mentioned Phylogenetic Systems, specifically those proposed by Engler and Prantl. Rendle’s work, The Classification of Flowering Plants, maintained the phylogenetic arrangement that was becoming popular in the early 20th century, especially its recognition of the importance of evolutionary relationships. As it is built upon the phylogenetic framework, it is not considered a traditional natural system like that of Bentham and Hooker, which focuses solely on non-evolutionary morphological similarities for grouping. Therefore, like Engler and Prantl, Rendle’s system is positioned on the evolutionary side of taxonomic history.
The correct option is (4):
The incorrect option is (1):
The incorrect option is (2): हचिन्सन
(The Families of Flowering Plants)
The incorrect option is (3): रेन्डल
Which of the following is incorrect in reference to Bryophytes?
The correct option is 4: Presence of independent sporophyte.
This statement is factually incorrect regarding the life cycle of Bryophytes, which is why it is the correct answer to the question asking for the incorrect reference. Bryophytes (mosses, liverworts, and hornworts) exhibit a distinct life cycle pattern known as haplo-diplontic, where two generations alternate. The dominant, free-living, and photosynthetic plant body is the gametophyte (haploid, n). The sporophyte generation (diploid, 2n) is comparatively short-lived, structurally simpler, and is entirely or partially dependent on the gametophyte for water, minerals, and nutrition. The sporophyte remains permanently attached to the gametophyte body, growing directly from the fertilized egg within the archegonium. Therefore, the core characteristic is a dependent sporophyte, not an independent one, which makes this option false and the answer to the multiple-choice question.
The incorrect option is 1: Water is essential for fertilization.
This statement is a fundamental characteristic of Bryophytes, which often leads to them being termed the "amphibians of the plant kingdom." Fertilization in Bryophytes is an oogamous process, where the male gametes (antherozoids) are motile and the female gamete (egg) is stationary. The antherozoids possess flagella and must physically swim through an external film of water to reach the neck of the archegonium where the egg is housed. This obligate requirement for liquid water for the male gamete transfer limits their distribution primarily to damp, shaded, and moist environments.
The incorrect option is 2: Presence of archegonia.
This statement is correct. Bryophytes are classified as Archegoniates along with Pteridophytes and Gymnosperms because their female sex organ is the archegonium. The archegonium is a distinctive flask-shaped structure consisting of a swollen base called the venter, which encloses the egg cell, and an elongated neck. This structure serves the vital purpose of protecting the single egg cell and, after fertilization, providing initial nourishment and shelter to the developing sporophyte.
The incorrect option is 3: Presence of motile sperms.
This statement is also correct for all Bryophytes. The male reproductive organs, the antheridia, produce a large number of male gametes known as antherozoids. These antherozoids are characteristically motile; they are typically biflagellated (possessing two whiplash flagella) which enables them to swim in the water film. Their motility is essential for chemically-mediated transport to the archegonium, which is an ancient trait reflecting the aquatic ancestry of these primitive land plants.
The correct option is (4):
(Presence of independent sporophyte)
The incorrect option is (1):
(Water is essential for fertilization)
The incorrect option is (2):
(Presence of archegonium)
The incorrect option is (3):
(Presence of motile male gametes)
Pyrenoids are:
The correct option is 2: Protein surrounded by starch plates
Pyrenoids are specialized, highly conserved sub-cellular structures primarily found within the chloroplasts of many algae (such as Chlamydomonas and Spirogyra) and the hornworts (a group of non-vascular plants). Their fundamental role is twofold: to enhance the efficiency of carbon fixation and to act as centers for carbohydrate storage. The structure of the pyrenoid is key to its function, and it is universally described as having a dense, non-membranous core composed almost entirely of protein. This central protein matrix is predominantly made up of the essential photosynthetic enzyme RuBisCO (Ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase), which catalyzes the first major step of carbon fixation in the Calvin cycle. Surrounding this RuBisCO-rich core is a distinct layer or sheath of stored food material, which, in most cases, consists of starch. This carbohydrate reserve accumulates as distinct, often plate-like or cup-shaped starch grains/plates that physically surround the protein core. This anatomical arrangement—the catalytic protein center encased by the storage product—is a mechanism to maximize the concentration of CO2 around the RuBisCO enzyme, thereby improving photosynthetic yield and enabling immediate storage of the resulting carbohydrate. Therefore, the most accurate structural description is a protein body surrounded by starch plates.
The incorrect option is 1: Starch surrounded by protein grains
This statement is structurally and functionally incorrect because it reverses the actual arrangement. The pyrenoid is not a starch body with protein coating it; rather, the dense, functional core is the protein (RuBisCO enzyme), and the starch is the product that accumulates around this core. The core must be proteinaceous because it houses the primary enzyme responsible for generating the starch product. If the structure were starch surrounded by protein, the crucial enzyme RuBisCO would be relegated to an outer layer, which would be an inefficient arrangement for its role as a carbon-fixing catalyst.
The incorrect option is 3: Protein surrounded by oil layer
While many algae, especially green algae, do synthesize and store energy reserves in the form of lipids (oil droplets), oil is not the primary reserve material that forms the sheath around the pyrenoid core. The characteristic reserve associated with pyrenoid structure and function is starch (a polysaccharide/carbohydrate). The pyrenoid's close connection to the Calvin cycle, where carbon fixation occurs, dictates that the immediate storage product of photosynthesis is carbohydrate, not lipid. Oil droplets are typically stored separately in the cytoplasm or within the chloroplast, not as a direct structural component of the pyrenoid complex.
The incorrect option is 4: Oil droplet surrounded by starch grains
This option is incorrect on two counts. First, the pyrenoid's core is fundamentally proteinaceous (RuBisCO), not an oil droplet. Second, while starch is the surrounding material, the combination of an oil core and a starch sheath does not describe the pyrenoid. An organelle with an oil-based core is typically a lipid body, such as a spherosome or elaioplast, which functions exclusively in lipid storage and lacks the high concentration of RuBisCO protein central to the pyrenoid's unique function in carbon concentration and initial carbohydrate synthesis.
The flesh of pear, guava and sapota fruit is gritty because of the presence of:
The correct option is 1: Sclereids
Sclereids are a specialized type of dead, supportive tissue known as sclerenchyma, which is responsible for providing rigidity and hardness to plant parts. The characteristic gritty or sandy texture that you experience when eating the flesh of fruits like pear, guava, and sapota is a direct result of the abundant presence of these sclereids. These cells are also commonly referred to as "stone cells" or "grit cells" because of their distinct morphology. They are typically short, irregular, or roughly spherical (isodiametric) in shape, and their most distinguishing feature is the extremely thick, secondary cell wall that has been heavily impregnated with lignin. This dense lignification makes the cell walls very hard and non-flexible, and because these cells are scattered throughout the soft, fleshy parenchymatous tissue of the fruit pulp, they create the tough, granular sensation upon mastication. This anatomical feature is a clear evolutionary trait for mechanical protection or seed dispersal in these specific fruit types.
The incorrect option is 2: Amyloplast
Amyloplasts are non-pigmented plastids, a type of organelle found in certain plant cells, and their principal biological role is the synthesis and long-term storage of starch. They are highly concentrated in storage organs such as potato tubers, seeds, and the storage parenchyma of fruits. Although they are found in the cells of pear and guava, they are soft, microscopic, intracellular components and do not possess the structural integrity or rigid, lignified cell walls that are necessary to impart a coarse or gritty texture to the entire tissue. The presence of amyloplasts is significant for the fruit's carbohydrate content and energy reserve, but they do not influence the hard, mechanical texture perceived during eating.
The incorrect option is 3: Sclerenchymatous fibres
Sclerenchymatous fibres, while related to sclereids as they are both forms of sclerenchyma, are incorrect because they have a distinct morphology and location. Fibres are typically very long, narrow, and tapering cells, whereas the gritty texture is caused by the shorter, isodiametric sclereids. Plant fibres primarily function to provide maximum tensile strength and mechanical support to plant organs that require structural reinforcement, such as the stems and the vascular bundles within leaves, exemplified by the strong fibres of materials like linen and hemp. They generally occur in bundles and contribute to the toughness of the plant, but they are not the specific cells scattered within the fruit pulp that cause the characteristic granular mouthfeel.
The incorrect option is 4: Collenchyma
Collenchyma is a simple plant tissue composed of living cells that primarily provides flexible, non-rigid support to the growing parts of the plant, such as young stems, petioles, and the margins of leaves. These cells are characterized by their unevenly thickened primary cell walls, usually concentrated at the corners of the cells, which allows for strength and elasticity without restricting growth. Since the primary function of collenchyma is flexible support, this tissue entirely lacks the heavy lignification and extreme hardness required to produce the characteristic gritty or stony texture of pear, guava, and sapota flesh.
The correct option is (1):
The incorrect option is (2):
The incorrect option is (3):
The incorrect option is (4):
Sida, a member of family Malvaceae does not exhibit this prominent trait :
The correct option is 3: Presence of epicalyx
The question asks you to identify the prominent trait that Sida, a genus within the Malvaceae family, does not possess. The Malvaceae family, which includes cotton, okra, and hibiscus, is characterized by several distinctive floral features. The epicalyx, which is an extra set of leaf-like structures (bracteoles) located beneath the main calyx (sepals), is a prominent feature found in many members, notably Hibiscus. However, the genus Sida is a well-known exception in this large plant family. In classic taxonomic studies, Sida flowers are specifically noted for lacking a distinct involucre of bracteoles—the epicalyx—around their calyx. Therefore, since the presence of the epicalyx is a common family trait that Sida does not exhibit, it is the correct answer.
The incorrect option is 1: Monoadelphous stamens
Monoadelphous stamens, where the filaments of the numerous stamens are fused into a single tube (the staminal tube) that surrounds the pistil, is one of the most reliable and defining characteristics of the entire Malvaceae family. This feature is a consistent and fundamental part of the floral morphology of the genus Sida. The plant exhibits a prominent, fused staminal column with free anthers at the apex. Since Sida clearly possesses this trait, it cannot be the answer to a question asking for a trait it does not exhibit.
The incorrect option is 2: Axile Placentation
Axile placentation describes the arrangement where the ovules are attached to the central column or axis of a compound ovary that is divided into multiple chambers (locules) by septa. This type of placentation is a characteristic feature of the superior ovary found in members of the Malvaceae family, including Sida. The ovary of Sida is multilocular, and the seeds are attached centrally. Therefore, Sida does exhibit axile placentation, which is why this option is incorrect.
The incorrect option is 4: Alternate stipulate leaves
The arrangement of leaves on the stem is a crucial taxonomic character. The leaves of most Malvaceae members, including Sida, are arranged in an alternate or spiral pattern, not opposite one another. Furthermore, the term "stipulate" refers to the presence of stipules—small, paired, leaf-like structures—at the base of the leaf stalk (petiole). The presence of stipules is a standard characteristic of Sida and the family as a whole. Since Sida is defined by having alternate, stipulate leaves, this option is a trait that the plant does exhibit and is therefore incorrect.
The correct option is (3):
Plants not differentiated into root, stem and leaves are grouped under:
The correct option is 3: Thallophytes
The correct answer is Thallophytes because this division of the plant kingdom is classically defined by the absence of a distinct, differentiated body structure. The plant body of an organism belonging to Thallophyta is referred to as a thallus, which is a simple, undifferentiated structure lacking true roots, stems, and leaves. This group is considered the most primitive in the traditional classification of the plant kingdom and predominantly includes algae, and in older systems, fungi and lichens. Their lack of vascular tissue and the absence of complex organ systems are key features that align perfectly with the characteristic described in the question—a body not differentiated into standard plant organs. This fundamental simplicity distinguishes them from all higher plant groups.
The incorrect option is 1: Gymnosperms
Gymnosperms belong to the most highly evolved group of plants, known as Phanerogams, meaning they are seed-bearing plants. By definition, a Gymnosperm plant body is extremely well-differentiated, possessing true roots, a sturdy woody stem, and leaves that are often specialized to withstand extreme climates, such as needle-like leaves with a thick cuticle. They also feature a complex and highly efficient vascular system for the transport of water and nutrients throughout the plant body. Therefore, the Gymnosperms represent the exact opposite of the condition described in the question, as their evolutionary success is built upon having highly differentiated organs.
The incorrect option is 2: Phanerogams
Phanerogams, or Spermatophytes, constitute the entire group of seed-bearing plants, which includes both Gymnosperms and Angiosperms (flowering plants). The term literally translates to "visible reproduction" because their reproductive structures culminate in the easily visible seed. A major defining trait of all Phanerogams is that they possess a highly differentiated sporophyte plant body, meaning they all have a well-developed system of true roots, stems, and leaves. Because this group includes the most structurally complex plants, it cannot be the category for plants that lack differentiation.
The incorrect option is 4: Cryptogams
Cryptogams, meaning "hidden reproduction," is a large sub-kingdom of plants that reproduce by spores and do not bear seeds or flowers. This group encompasses the divisions Thallophyta, Bryophyta, and Pteridophyta. While Thallophyta (the correct answer) falls within Cryptogams, the overall group is too broad for the question's specific criterion. Pteridophytes, such as ferns, which are also Cryptogams, have a well-differentiated plant body with true roots, stems, and leaves. Therefore, while Thallophytes are Cryptogams, Cryptogams as a whole are not exclusively composed of plants lacking differentiation, making Thallophytes the more precise and accurate answer.
The correct option is 3:
The incorrect option is 1:
The incorrect option is 2:
The incorrect option is 4:

9 + 2 fibrillar arrangement is present in :
The correct option is 1: Eukaryotic flagella
The 9 + 2 fibrillar arrangement is the hallmark ultrastructure of the central core of cilia and flagella found in all eukaryotic organisms, a structure known as the axoneme. This highly conserved pattern consists of a precise arrangement of microtubules: nine pairs of microtubule doublets are evenly distributed around the circumference of the axoneme, while two single microtubules are located at its very center, giving rise to the characteristic "9 + 2" description. These microtubules are built from tubulin protein and are responsible for the whip-like or wave-like motion of the flagellum. The mechanical motion is driven by the motor protein dynein, which forms arms extending from one doublet to the adjacent one, facilitating the regulated sliding of the microtubule doublets that translates into the overall bending movement necessary for motility. This complex and organized arrangement is critical for functions such as swimming in single-celled organisms and moving mucus in human respiratory tracts.
The incorrect option is 2: Bacterial flagella
Bacterial flagella belong to prokaryotes and are structurally and functionally distinct from their eukaryotic counterparts. They are much simpler, rigid, and filamentous appendages that are entirely made up of a single protein subunit called flagellin, completely lacking any internal microtubule arrangement. Instead of the complex 9+2 pattern, the bacterial flagellum operates like a propeller, driven by a rotary motor embedded in the cell wall and plasma membrane. Therefore, bacterial flagella do not possess the 9 + 2 fibrillar structure.
The incorrect option is 3: Basal granule
The basal granule, also known as the basal body or kinetosome, serves as the anchor point for the eukaryotic flagellum or cilium within the cell cytoplasm. While it is structurally related to the flagellum, its microtubule arrangement is fundamentally different. The basal granule exhibits a 9 + 0 arrangement, meaning it is composed of nine peripheral microtubule triplets arranged in a ring, but it completely lacks the two central single microtubules. Its function is to provide the template and structural base for the growth of the axoneme and is not the site where the 9 + 2 pattern is found.
The incorrect option is 4: Centriole
Centrioles are cytoplasmic organelles primarily involved in organizing the cell's cytoskeleton and initiating the formation of the mitotic spindle during cell division. Like basal granules, centrioles also exhibit the characteristic 9 + 0 arrangement of microtubules. They consist of nine peripheral microtubule triplets arranged in a cylindrical pattern, completely lacking any central pair. Although a centriole can sometimes migrate to the plasma membrane and differentiate into a basal granule, and thus indirectly lead to the growth of a 9+2 flagellum, it does not itself possess the 9 + 2 fibrillar structure.
The correct option is 1:
The incorrect option is 2:
The incorrect option is 3: आधारी कण में
The incorrect option is 4: तारकेन्द्र में

Synergids help in :
The correct option is 1: Entry of pollen tube
Synergids are two specialized cells that flank the egg cell, forming the egg apparatus at the micropylar end of the embryo sac. Their most critical function in the process of sexual reproduction in angiosperms is the precise guidance and successful entry of the pollen tube. The synergids possess a highly thickened, finger-like projection called the filiform apparatus at their micropylar tip, which serves two main roles. Firstly, the filiform apparatus is structurally similar to transfer cells and is thought to be metabolically active, secreting chemical attractants (chemoattractants) that provide a directional signal for the pollen tube, guiding it through the micropyle and directly to the egg apparatus. Secondly, upon successful navigation, the pollen tube does not enter the egg cell directly; instead, it enters one of the synergid cells. This synergid cell subsequently degenerates, ruptures the pollen tube tip, and facilitates the release of the two male gametes into the embryo sac, ensuring the correct pathway for double fertilization. Therefore, the entire mechanism for the directional growth and successful penetration of the pollen tube is orchestrated by the synergids.
The incorrect option is 2: Formation of endosperm
The formation of the endosperm is a separate event in double fertilization, known as triple fusion. This process occurs when the second male gamete (which is released from the pollen tube) travels to the central cell and fuses with the two polar nuclei (or the resultant secondary nucleus). This fusion results in a triploid (3n) Primary Endosperm Nucleus (PEN), which subsequently divides to form the nutritive endosperm tissue. Synergid cells are entirely separate from this process; their function concludes with the reception of the pollen tube and the release of the male gametes, not the nuclear fusion that initiates endosperm development.
The incorrect option is 3: Formation of embryo sac
The formation of the embryo sac, also known as megagametogenesis, is the entire process of the female gametophyte development. This process begins with the functional megaspore, which undergoes three successive mitotic divisions to produce the eight-nucleate, seven-celled structure that is the mature embryo sac. The synergids are merely two of the seven cells that are produced as a result of this entire developmental pathway. They are essential components of the embryo sac, but they do not participate in or cause its formation; rather, they are the product of the formation process.
The incorrect option is 4: Providing nutrition to male gametes
While synergid cells are metabolically active and their filiform apparatus suggests a role in molecular transport, their function is not primarily to provide bulk nutrition to the male gametes. The male gametes (sperm cells) are already carried within the cytoplasm of the pollen tube, a process that is supported by the vegetative cell of the pollen grain. Furthermore, the gametes are discharged into the degenerating synergid and fuse almost immediately with the egg cell and central cell. It is the endosperm, which develops from the triple fusion product, that serves as the major nutritive tissue, storing food reserves for the ultimately developing embryo and seedling.
The correct option is 1:
The incorrect option is 2:
The incorrect option is 3:
The incorrect option is 4:
